A man paralyzed at 17 while snowboarding has found true love and a wonderful life. One wrong landing on a snowy mountain in Pennsylvania changed Christain Budney’s life forever–but it also set the stage for a love story that proves God brings the right people into our lives at exactly the right time.

In March of 2006, Christian, an avid snowboarder who had been riding since he was eight, found himself in a world of pain and unable to move. "I just hit a jump wrong," he said. "I've hit that jump a million times, I've done flips, I've done so much on my board, but I just came down wrong and landed on my neck,” he said.

The Accident Fractured His Spine

The accident fractured his spine, leaving him with minimal use of one arm and robbing him of his ability to walk. It was a devastating moment, but even then, Christian leaned on faith, positivity, and the love of those around him.

'I probably got thousands of cards from people that I didn't even know, I got cards from nuns in Rome that saw my photo and read my story, strangers saying they were praying for me,’ he recalled.

Christian slowly rebuilt his life, and he went to college to pursue his dream job. But as the years passed, he wondered if marriage and a family would ever be an answered prayer. Then, in 2019, Shannon Kane, an ICU nurse, walked into his life. They were both in love at first sight. When Shannon met Christian, she didn’t see the wheelchair or his injury; she simply saw him for who he was.

She Doesn’t Think About His Injury That Paralyzed Him At 17

"Sometimes I'm like, 'Do you remember I have a spinal cord injury?' And she's like, 'You're just Christian, you're hilarious Christian. The last thing I sometimes remember is that you are disabled,’“ he said. Their love is a beautiful reminder that God’s timing is perfect when He brings the right person into our lives at the right moment.

The couple exchanged vows under a canopy of love and joy, and every impossible dream happened because of Shannon’s love for Christian. Shannon feels that her life is complete with her sweet husband, too.  “Every morning, Christian wakes up with a smile on his face, and I love that so much,” she said.

Christian and Shannon’s love story is a beautiful reminder of how God’s plans always work for our good, even when life feels impossibly hard. After Christian’s snowboarding accident, he could have let the weight of his circumstances crush him. But instead, he held on to hope, trusting that God still had something beautiful in store. Their story shows us how God doesn’t just answer prayers; He weaves lives together in ways we couldn’t even dream of. Even amid heartbreak and challenges, He’s writing a story full of love, and purpose, bringing the right people into our lives at just the right time.
