Jenna Bush Hager's Husband Saved A Choking Stranger And She Recalls The Scary Moment

Jenna Bush Hager's husband, Henry, was in the right place at the right time to save a life. And Hoda had the opportunity to sit down with her co-host and hear the full story about the scary moment!

Today With Hoda & Jenna, co-hosts had a lot to talk about on a recent morning after an unnerving evening the night before.

In this video, Jenna Bush Hager describes how an early dinner with her husband, Henry, and her mother-in-law turned from quiet to crazy!

Jenna Bush Hager's Husband Comes To The Rescue

The three were dining and chatting, and suddenly Henry noticed a woman in the restaurant was choking. He immediately got up and ran to help her, giving her the Heimlich Maneuver for what seemed like ten minutes, according to Jenna. Other men jumped in to help as well, and the woman survived, but it was a frightening situation!

Jenna says that, at one point, she could see that Henry was worried the lady would not survive—that their efforts weren’t working. However, thankfully, they did, and Jenna was deeply moved and impressed by her husband’s willingness to take action at that critical moment.

Henry stated that it was his experience as a Boy Scout that allowed him to know what to do during the crisis. In fact, he is an Eagle Scout, which is a really big accomplishment for a young man to achieve! Only 8% of all scouts in 2019 attained the rank of Eagle Scout. 

A Happy Ending

Jenna added that Henry’s mother was very proud of her son’s heroic actions, also attributing his quick thinking to his Eagle Scout status! She further stated that her own mother, Former First Lady Laura Bush, told Jenna she’d dreamed that her daughter would marry an Eagle Scout! How cool is that!

What is even more interesting is that Jenna’s own father had a similar experience while giving a speech back in the 1970s. President Bush observed from the podium that a woman in his own audience was choking. He immediately left his spot on stage and gave the woman the Heimlich Maneuver, saving her! 

Hoda noted that Jenna Bush Hager has a couple of outstanding men in her life, and Jenna readily agreed!
