Chrissy Metz Is Teaching Kids About The Power Of Prayer In New Book, 'God Hears Your Prayers'

For Emmy-award-winning actress Chrissy Metz, her new book with songwriter Bradley Collins is meant to introduce children to the power of prayer. In addition to encouraging kids to pray, the book also lets them know God hears and cares about them!

Many recognize Chrissy Metz for her role on the hit show This Is Us. But for this Christian celebrity, her faith is far more important than fame, fortune, or accolades in Hollywood.

Life for Chrissy Metz before her transformation into a big star included plenty of adversity and strife. And what helped carry Chrissy through was the foundation of faith passed on to her by her mother and grandmother.

"For me, prayer was always really important. My grandmother instilled that at a very young age. And it really has thankfully stuck with me throughout my whole life," she said during an interview with Christian Headlines. "... It just means a lot to me."

With the groundwork of faith meaning so much to Chrissy Metz, her new book for children seeks to instill a belief in the power of prayer.

Chrissy Metz's New Book For Kids About Prayer

The This Is Us star co-authored When I Talk to God, I Talk about You with songwriter Bradley Collins. The colorful picture book is written in the voice of a parent speaking to their child. The start of Chrissy Metz's new book reads:

"I prayed for the day that you would arrive;

I dreamt of your smile and the color of your eyes"

For Chrissy, prayer is an integral part of her daily life.

"I do it all the time. I mean, morning, noon, night, and in between," she said.

So, the goal of the book is to show kids how talking to God isn't really too different from talking to a friend. 

"That's really what prayer is, is a conversation with God," she said. "And when you sort of demystify what it is, you really start to create an actual relationship with God. … You don't have a friendship with a friend if you don't call them, right?"

Chrissy Metz wrote the new book alongside her boyfriend of several years, Bradley Collins. And for Bradley, he recalls being confused by prayer when he was a child.

"Am I allowed to pray? Do I know what to say? Am I allowed to talk to this Higher Power and ask for help and guidance?" he remembers wondering as a boy when his grandfather became very ill.

And so, like Chrissy, Bradley wants to help kids understand, "you can have a relationship with God."

Teaching Kids About Prayer

With this new book, both Chrissy and Bradley hope it can be a resource for parents (or even grandparents!) to aid in tackling the concept of prayer with their kids at a very young age.

"Hopefully, it'll touch parents just as much as the children," Chrissy said.
