Triplets Turn 86-Year-Old and Have So Much to Share, 'God Has Been Very Very Good to Us'

The first-ever-recorded triplets in Forsyth County, North Carolina, will celebrate more than 8 and a half decades together on June 6th. The nearly 86-year-old Cockerham triplets have spent their whole lives together. It’s so special that they’ve gotten to spend so many years together and have such a close bond.

North Carolina County Celebrates 86-Year-Old Triplets’ Birthday

The trio was born in 1940. Their 18-year-old mother had thought she was pregnant with one large baby, but she had three small ones who weighed 14 pounds altogether.

“They heard multiple heartbeats,” said the eldest triplet, Janice. “They delivered me first then went back for the others.”

Janet was born next. The doctor had left because they thought that the delivery was over, but a nurse called the doctor back when she realized Jim was also on his way.

A Happy Childhood Attached at The Hip

They all recalled having a happy childhood together. Their mother raised them with help from grandparents and friends. Janice credited their mom as the strongest person she’s ever met.

“It was fun growing up,” Janice said. “It’s been a great life. It really has… God has been very good to us.”

They’re Local Celebrities

Over the years, they’ve been known as local celebrities—the Cockerham Triplets. Newspapers would sometimes report their birthdays each year.

“All three of us stayed together,” Jim said. “We always had a playmate. We were always close. We always watched out for each other.”

Janice and Janet now live together, and Jim always calls every evening to check on them.

It’s a huge blessing to the triplets that they have had each other as lifelong friends. It’s just wonderful that they’ve gotten to have such a long life together!
