For his 103rd birthday, one veteran got the NASCAR moment of a lifetime. Some birthdays don’t just mark another year on the calendar. Some hold the kind of wonder that reminds us God still writes extraordinary moments into the margins of our days—moments that become treasured keepsakes for our souls.
Claude “Captain” Levinge turned 103 this past August. The Navy fighter pilot’s life story already reads like an epic novel: serving in World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam, graduating from the very first Top Gun program, mastering more than 34 aircraft, and still holding the Navy record for the most single-piloted flight hours. His walls and memories are lined with medals of valor. And yet, in his 103rd year, Claude still carried one more dream tucked inside his heart.

To Claude, our mouths drop in awe at the way he served our country. And we can’t help but cheer for what happened next!
At his birthday celebration at the Retreat at Canton, surrounded by loved ones, dignitaries, and officials from the White House, Governor Brian Kemp’s office, and U.S. Navy Admiral James W. Kilby, Claude made a wish: to meet a NASCAR driver.
That wish might have sounded simple, maybe even improbable at his age. But sometimes, God delights to show us that dreams have no expiration date.
A social media post about Claude’s wish went viral. And on September 23, 2025, that dream roared into reality. Atlanta race winner Daniel Suárez walked through the doors to meet the Navy’s “real Top Gun.”
“Super excited to be able to meet somebody that has meant so much for this amazing country. That has given so much for our freedom,” Daniel said, his voice full of respect. “Getting to meet somebody, that, you know, he’s a real Top Gun.”
And just like that, Claude’s smile carried the same brightness of a young man catching the thrill of flight again.
Brandon Hutchison, GM of EchoPark Speedway, went a step further, making Claude an honorary race official for the upcoming Autotrader 400, scheduled for February 22, 2026.
When asked what he loves most about NASCAR, Claude didn’t hesitate. “The speed,” he said with a twinkle in his eye, “and the way the drivers handle the turns.”
Isn’t that just how God works? He doesn’t simply give us more years; He fills our years with more life. With holy echoes that remind us: you’re never too old to keep dreaming. You’re never too far along to see His goodness in the land of the living.
Claude’s story is more than a birthday wish granted. It’s the perfect example that God uses moments like these to stir the rest of us awake—reminding us that life is to be lived with courage, hope, and expectancy.

Some dreams may take a century to come true, but when they do, they carry the sweet whisper of heaven: You are seen. You are loved. You are remembered.
And isn’t that what we all long for? To leave behind not just medals or records, but memories that inspire the generations watching us.
Claude, a fighter pilot, hero, and dreamer, just proved to us all: it’s never too late for God to surprise you with a gift that makes your heart soar. So let’s not keep this story to ourselves—share it with your friends, because sometimes the reminder that God still makes dreams come true at 103 is exactly the encouragement someone else needs today.
Psalm 37:4 “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
