we help in a school in Uganda
House of Joy South Wales was formed by ten people,
many who visited Uganda on previous occasions.
During our visit in April this year,
we organised an open day
for all families to come and to spend a day at the school
to see the children?s work and meet the teachers.
We had agreed to feed everyone that came that day
? quite a challenge as over 2.000 people attended.
During our celebration we had a much unexpected visit form the RDC
(the king?s representative) the king
had heard of our work and what we were doing for the people of Kasala,
the last time he had visited the area was 15 years ago.
He was delighted with what he saw and has offered
on behalf of the king his continued support.
In April this year, House of Joy South Wales had the pleasure of taking Howard and Judith Evans ? teachers here in
South Wales ? to the House of Joy School, Uganda. After falling in love with all the children and wanting to bring them all home, they spent time with our teachers, helping them and imparting new teaching skills to them all. They were then able to buy many new resources for each of the cl%^es with money that they had raised. The teachers were delighted with the help they received and it has helped them to enjoy their jobs better. If you would like to know more about their experience in
Africa, please email them on: handj@houseofjoy.co.uk
In June 2007 House of Joy employed a community worker. George Bright, he has been known to some of the team at house of Joy since 2004. It was a great pleasure to offer him this job. George is responsible for community projects for families of our children.
He has also undertaken a child protection course and has made sure that all he has learned is put into practice at our school. We have just received news from George that adults have begun attending reading and writing skill cl%^es. The work that George is doing is really beginning to transform the life of the adults. Once again all this is only possible because of your continued support??..THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
September 2007 sees the children going back to school both here andUganda. 747 pupils now attend House of Joy nursery and Primary School; quite a leap from 2005 when we started with just 56 children. The reason we?ve been allowed to grow is because people here like you have given generously to the project. Your money allows these children access to education, clean water and a meal everyday. We thank you for your continued support as we endeavour to make a difference together.
DO YOU KNOW ANYONE WHO COULD SPONSOR A CHILD??
We acquired land in Kasala, a bush area in the district of Mukono (30miles from the capital city,Kampala.)
We visited the area and spent time with the people asking them how we could help them,
there reply was unanimous they wanted education for the children and clean water
