Young Crooner Slows Down ‘Simply The Best’ For Epic Blind Audition On The Voice

One young man took a Tina Turner classic in a decidedly different direction and ended up wowing the judges and the studio audience with his stunning performance.
Covers are something every musician does at one time or another. For an unknown artist, playing a song the audience is already familiar with is a great way to get attention. However, if a musician completely butchers a classic, it has the potential to hurt a career. Thankfully, that was not the case with one contestant on The Voice Australia.
In a clip posted on YouTube, Christian Ellis, for his blind audition on the popular program, made an unusual song selection. Not only did the young man decide to sing Tina Turner’s “Simply Best” but he changed it up significantly.
Instead of keeping the upbeat tempo of Tina Turner’s original, Christian slowed the song way down. He turned it into more of a singer-songwriter/folk rendition. It sounded like a completely different song.
However, the judges quickly warmed up to Christian’s interpretation of the 1980s song. Right as Christian was approaching the chorus, one of the show’s female judges hit her button, turning her chair around for the young man.
But she wasn’t the only one who turned her chair for Christian.
Right before Christian’s performance ends, singers Jason Derulo and Rita Ora flip their chairs around, signaling their desire for the young man to join their team.
The judges weren’t the only people in love with Christian’s take on the Tina Turner hit. At the end of his performance, the studio audience gave the young musician a thunderous round of applause.
Christian took a big chance with his audition. He completely changed up a song most know and love and made it his own. His musical gamble paid off greatly.
Psalm 105:2 “Let your voice be sounding in songs and melody; let all your thoughts be of the wonder of his works.”
