Voice Contestant Gives ‘Walkin’ After Midnight’ An Elvis Makeover During Blind Audition
One young man turned in a unique performance on The Voice, thrilling the audience and the judges as he gave a Patsy Cline classic an Elvis Presley makeover.
Anyone and everyone who goes on The Voice or American Idol, hoping to see their dreams realized, deserves a ton of credit. It requires a massive amount of courage and bravery to put oneself on display in front of the world and some of the biggest names in the music world. Regardless of the eventual outcome, taking such a huge step should be commended.
In a clip posted on YouTube, Sam Dearie, a 20-year-old from Ohio, appeared on The Voice and performed Patsy Cline’s “Walkin’ After Midnight.” But he changed things up with the track, not wanting to simply replicate Patsy Cline’s version. Instead, Sam sang the tune, likely how Elvis Presley would have done so.
“You reminded me so much of Elvis,” Gwen Stefani said. “He has that, like, vibrato that you do. But maybe it was just more about choices in the performance. It felt a little bit untamed.”
Not only did Sam attempt to imitate the King of Rock and Roll, but he even dressed in a similar fashion, everything from his blue jacket to his pants and his shoes.
Unfortunately for the young man, the judges did not turn their chairs for him during his blind audition. However, they all offered him some helpful advice, telling him if his singing had been only 10 percent better, he would have been on the show.
Despite not selecting him for their team, all the judges gave the young man words of encouragement and told him to not give up and continue working.
“Getting a “no” is never fun,” Reba McEntire said. “It’s very hard to see talented people go home. My heart breaks for him. I hope he keeps pursuing his music.”
Joshua 1:9 “Have I not given you your orders? Take heart and be strong; have no fear and do not be troubled; for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
