All-Male Choir Gives Pop Song A Chilling Makeover On BGT
A choir gave a stunning vocal performance of a Harry Styles hit on Britain’s Got Talent.
For musicians, covering another artist’s songs is always a tricky situation. The tunes covered are usually very familiar to most of the population. And because they are so well known, people will instinctively judge the cover against the original. But that’s why the covers must vary slightly from the original version but not too much. If they are too different, people are likely to claim they are “ruining” or “destroying a classic.”
One group of talented vocalists, the Johns’ Boys all-male choir, struck that delicate balance when they performed “Falling” by Harry Styles. In fact, their stirring performance left the studio audience and the judges on their feet. One of the judges, Bruno, was even spotted wiping tears away from his eyes.
The clip posted on YouTube begins with one member of the group performing a solo, singing out several lines of the track. Seconds later, others in the choir provide him with a background as they harmonize beautifully.
As the group reaches the chorus, the audience lets out a collective cheer and a smattering of applause, and deservedly so. The group then goes on a stunning and error-proof run, belting out several lines of the song’s lyrics together.
Then, around the 1:20-minute mark in the short clip, another young man steps up to give another solo performance. The crowd really enjoyed this portion of their version of “Falling.” The crow immediately responds with cheers and applause.
In the end, the choir gives an outstanding performance, doing the Harry Styles song more than justice with their inspired and moving rendition. Their collective voices are literally music to the ears. One could easily listen to this group of supremely talented vocalists sing anything and everything all day.
