A Prayer to Encourage Worship While You Wait
By Keneesha Saunders Liddie

Bible Reading:
I will praise the Lord at all times. I will constantly speak his praises.
- Psalm 34:1

Listen or Read Below:

Have you ever had to be admitted to the hospital through the emergency room? We go there in pain and anguish, fill out insurance forms, provide health information, and update personal details. We do all of this just to sit down and wait to be called.

While waiting, we see people come in. We look around the room and realize our situation may not be as drastic as someone else’s. As we wait, we may even start talking to the people around us who are also waiting. Suddenly, the wait doesn’t seem as long or as burdensome. As we communicate with others about the shortcomings of the healthcare system, we experience a measure of comfort while we wait.

Worshipping while waiting on God offers the same kind of comfort.

When we worship while we wait, our focus shifts. The cares of this life and the answers we seek do not lead us to worry, but to trust. We trust that God’s timing is perfect. We trust that God will answer our prayers because He has promised to hear every prayer. Our God is a promise keeper, and His Word is trustworthy.

I want to encourage you to worship our Lord while you wait on Him. Sometimes God says yes right away, and sometimes He says no. But there are also times when we pray for weeks, months, and even years, and no answer has come yet.

Don’t give up hope. Don’t stop praying. Shift your focus. Turn your eyes to Jesus, and praise and worship the Lord at all times. Constantly speak His praises.

I think of Job, who waited a long time for God to restore his health. Job resolved to worship God through it all. His motto was, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.” Job had not done anything wrong, and he never charged God foolishly. In the end, God came through. Job was restored with good health, beautiful children, more wealth, and most importantly, an even stronger and deeper faith in God. This was because God proved Himself to Job, and Job realized that waiting time is not wasted time.

So, while you wait, worship your God. Talk with Him. Read His Word. Your character is being developed, and God is with you every step of the way.

I also think of Joseph, who was sold into slavery by his brothers. Joseph’s motto was, “You meant it for evil, but God meant it for good.” Joseph’s character was built, and his faith in God was so strong that he held no animosity toward his brothers. His waiting period produced a mature faith in God.

My encouragement to you is this: do not despise the waiting period, because it is building your faith and endurance in Jesus. When trials come your way, you will be able to withstand the enemy’s darts and also encourage others who are in their own season of waiting.

Remember to bless the Lord as you wait at all times, and let His praise always be in your mouth.

Let’s Pray:

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your long suffering and kindness toward me. I am learning to wait on You because Your plans for me are good and better than I could ever imagine. I learn from You as I witness the state of the world, knowing that You hate sin, yet Your lovingkindness still extends to all unbelievers.

Thank You for hearing my prayers, and I thank You in advance for Your answer. I will wait on You, Lord, because my help comes from You alone. I will worship while I wait so my focus can remain on You and You alone.

Help me to wait with grace and praise You through it all. Dear God, build my faith and endurance in You. Thank You, Lord, for Your gift of self-control; may I utilize it while I wait. Help me to glean from the story of Abraham and Sarah and trust in Your timing, because it is always perfect.

I promise and commit myself to always praise You. Let praises flow from my lips without ceasing, and may my soul be refreshed as I worship while I wait. I seek to trust in You completely. Take away my doubts, unbelief, and complaints, dear Lord. Let only praise and worship flow continuously.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

What do we do when God no longer feels as close as He used to feel?

Many sincere believers experience seasons when prayer feels empty, Scripture feels quiet, and God seems strangely absent. For leaders especially, those seasons can feel confusing, discouraging, and even shameful.
