My ministry..
When I was about 9 years old, I learned how to sign the ASL alphabet from a book. I did not know anyone who was deaf and never really understood why I had remembered it through my adulthood.
July 2005, I found myself often watching the church interpreter. I would become excited when I would understand the signs. Around the same time our church was reading “The Purpose Driven Life.” I began to ponder, “What is my personal ministry?” I thought, “Is sign language my ministry?”
As soon as decided to explore the possibilities, the devil tried to hinder me by saying, “You’re pregnant, you don’t have time to learn something new! You can’t introduce yourself to a stranger! You only know the alphabet; therefore, you can’t join the ministry. You can’t afford sign language classes!”
I decided to trust God! I spoke to someone I did not know and confessed I had a desire but did not yet have the skill. God provided free sign language lessons at my church, local school for the deaf and rehabilitation service. While 8 months pregnant, I signed my first sermon. Today, I continue to sign with a spirit of worship and I am “Felicia Signing Off”!
A Prayer for a Courageous Soul - Your Daily Prayer - April 26
We have been given a remarkable gift through God and His redemption story. Not only have we received eternal life with our Creator, but we have received courage in Christ that will change the trajectory of our lives and the lives of those around us forever.
