Viral Singing Phlebotomist Performs Worship Songs For Patients
Enrique Rodriguez serves others daily as a phlebotomist where he draws blood from patients, carefully ensuring that he takes the proper amount, and labels and cares for the samples. And now, he is inspiring thousands through his voice and love for Jesus. This viral singing phlebotomist performs worship songs for patients and it’s all in a day’s work for this former real-life “Soprano.”
His TikTok videos reflect just how amazing and life-changing our mighty Father is. Enrique joined a gang at a young age because he longed for a true brotherhood after his brother went to prison. He longed for family and he wanted to feel worthy of something.
But he quickly found out that being a gang member only brought pain, betrayal, and consequences for his actions. When he was asked about how he got involved in the gangster lifestyle he said, “The gang lifestyle is pure manipulation. They make you feel like they care about you, that they've got your back that you're family, but all they do is use you so they don't have to get their hands dirty.”
He left the streets after a rival gang made two different attempts to murder his mother.
“'I found God at an extremely troubling period in my life and he showed himself to me when I needed him most. I know that God wanted me to care for people just as he cared for me, and the hospital was the perfect place to do that,” he said.
He became trained as a phlebotomist after he became employed at a hospital as a housekeeper. Not only did God change his heart and his circumstances, but God also helped him discover his God-given talents of music and singing.
He learned how to play the guitar and piano and has a passion for singing about God’s life-changing love he has for all of his children. Especially the lost and hurting like Enrique was.
Now he’s an overnight star on TikTok after one of his videos went viral. He gained over 80,000 followers overnight when the video he posted captured him playing the piano to one of his gravely ill patients. With a portable piano, he sang “Oceans: Where Feet May Fail,” a song that reminds us to trust our redeeming God no matter the battle we face.
His love for Jesus is reflected and shines forth as he beautifully belted out the lyrics to the worship song:
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the water
Wherever You would call me
It is an incredible, intimate, and sacred moment to witness Enrique lead his patients in worship. He helps strengthen their faith in a God who can do all things like healing our body, our hearts, and changing our lives through loving Jesus. I can’t help but sing along with Enrique, can you? His inspiring videos deserve to be shared and re-shared, don’t you think?
“Peter said to Him, “‘Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.’” And He said, “‘Come!’” And Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came toward Jesus,” Matthew 14:28-29
