‘On The Sea Of Life’ Classic Hymn From The Redeemed Quartet

Our time on earth is temporary, but will run out eventually. Death is something that everyone will experience at some point, as it spares no person. However, we do not have to fear death.

John 3:16 says anyone who “believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” In their rendition of the classic hymn “On the Sea of Life,” The Redeemed Quartet mentions this promise and hope that is available after our time on earth comes to an end.

In the song’s first verse, the four guys sing they are leaving all of earth's trials and tribulations behind. Instead, they have their sights set on their new home. They are “sailing to a better home.” The lyrics state it’s a place where all those saved now reside and that “many pleasures wait us there.”

In the song’s chorus, the lyrics state that it’s only a matter of time until they reach that place of safety and security. They are headed in that direction, “sailing onward, sailing o’er the foam.”

The second verse mentions that millions who accepted Christ live in this new place. However, it also adds that there is no capacity limit on the vessel sailing to this new and wonderful place. There is room still available for anyone who listens to and acts on the captain's words.

“Many millions now abide in that home beyond the tide
Where the ransomed pilgrims wait free from care
There is room on board for all who will heed the captain’s call”

In addition to the tune's wonderful message of hope and a future with Christ in heaven, it is also beautifully performed. The four group members harmonize and blend their voices expertly, making for literal music to the ears.

Psalm 95:5 “The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land.”
