Face to Face (With Christ My Savior)

GodTube Staff Face to Face (With Christ My Savior)
"Face to Face" is a hymn born from the beautiful collaboration of a poem written by Mrs. Frank A. Breck and music composed by Grant Tullar, both from 1898. Since then it has won the hearts of thousands of people around the world because it so wonderfully speaks of the anticipation of seeing Christ one day, face to face.

1 Face to face with Christ my Savior,
Face to face--what will it be
When with rapture I behold Him,
Jesus Christ who died for me?

Chorus:
Face to face I shall behold Him,
Far beyond the starry sky;
Face to face in all His glory,
I shall see Him by and by!

2 Only faintly now I see Him
With the darkened veil between,
But a blessed day is coming
When His glory shall be seen. [Chorus]

3 What rejoicing in His presence,
When are banished grief and pain;
When the crooked ways are straightened
And the dark things shall be plain. [Chorus]

4 Face to face--oh, blissful moment!
Face to face--to see and know;
Face to face with my Redeemer,
Jesus Christ who loves me so. [Chorus]

The Story Behind Face to Face (With Christ My Savior)

Carrie Ellis Breck, who also wrote under the name of her husband as “Mrs. Frank A. Breck,” was a very proficient hymn and poem creator.  It is estimated she wrote over twelve hundred hymns in her lifetime but few were as popular as the lyrics of “Face to Face.”

She worked with Grant Tullar to create many hymns in their time, Breck creating the lyrics in poem form and Tullar composing the music.  After receiving a collection of poems from Carrie in 1898, the first one he read happened to be "Face to Face" and synchronously he had just written a new song that would fit perfectly with it.

An inspiration for the title came from 1 Corinthians 13:12, "For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face."  This hymn has won the hearts of thousands of people around the world because it so wonderfully speaks of the anticipation of seeing Christ one day, face to face.
