A Prayer for Our Brothers and Sisters Facing Persecution

According to Open Doors, the number of Christians exposed to persecution and at risk of suffering violence worldwide rose by 8 million people this year – reaching a record 388 million. The World Watch List 2026 reported that of these 388 million, 201 million are women or girls, while 110 million are minors under the age of 15.

What does this mean for those of us living in a country without persecution? 1 Corinthians 12:26 says, “If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.”

We, as believers, are to suffer with them, remember them, and pray for them. We are one body in Christ. It’s sometimes hard to be reminded of others and what they face when we often feel like there is so much going on in our lives, cities, country, etc. However, God can help remind us.

A few years ago, I came across a documentary called The Insanity of God. I don’t want to give too much away, but it talks about the persecuted church. Every so often, I watch this to remind myself of my brothers and sisters overseas.

What a privilege it is to pray for someone who is suffering for our Lord. May we never forget them, and may we have the strength to endure if persecution comes to us.

Let's Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You that because of Your Son, Jesus, we have not only a Heavenly Father but spiritual brothers and sisters. Lord, we don’t know all of them. We don’t know all they’re going through, but You do. 

Father, we pray today for our brothers and sisters who are facing persecution. I pray that they would feel Your presence. I pray that they would feel Your hands upholding them and helping them. I pray for their families, as I am sure they’re scared. Please guard their hearts and minds. Please bring them the peace that surpasses all understanding. Please watch over them and protect them.

Lord, it’s hard to understand all they are going through, but I pray that You would meet them where they are. If they’re weary, give them strength. If they’re hurting, give them healing. If they’re doubting, give them faith. If they’re sorrowful, give them joy. Lord, You are always what we need in every situation,so I pray that right now, You would give them more of Yourself. Help them to know the fellowship of Your suffering. 

And, Father, please remind us to pray for them. Wake us up in the middle of the night if need be to cover our brothers and sisters in prayer. We ask and pray all this in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen!
