Man's Electrifying Rendition of Journey's 'Lights' Gets 4-Chair Turn
One man had such an electric and stunning blind audition, singing Journey’s hit “Lights” on The Voice that all four of the show’s judges turned their chairs for him.
The 1970s was a stellar decade for music. People like Elton John, Stevie Wonder and James Brown were topping the charts with their classic, timeless and unforgettable hits. Also, groups like The Eagles, Queen, The Rolling Stones and Fleetwood Mac were in their heydays in the 1970s. The 1970s was a decade that changed music forever!
In a clip posted on YouTube, one man, 33-year-old Gene Taylor from Brooklyn, New York, put on a stupendous performance, singing a tune from another band from the 1970s. Gene wowed the judges and the studio audience with his cover of “Lights” by Journey.
Gene has a ton of musical talent. His smooth and soothing voice is evident moments after he starts singing. Seconds into his performance, John Legend slams his button, signaling his interest in the Brooklyn singer and turning his chair around to watch the rest of Gene’s cover.
Dan + Shay, Reba McEntire and finally, Chance the Rapper follow John’s lead by hitting their button and flipping their chairs around for Gene.
It’s a fantastic vocal performance that ends with all four judges on their feet, giving the immensely talented young singer a well-deserved standing ovation.
Gene has such a unique and beautiful tone to his voice. It worked very well with the Journey hit, coming close to replicating the voice in the original.
All four judges give Gene their best sales pitches, trying to convince him to join their team for the season. Following a bit of back and forth with the judges, bringing his mother out on stage and revealing that he was adopted as a baby, Gene selects John as his coach.
It will be interesting to see how far Gene goes in the competition. With a voice like his, Gene will probably do very well.
Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
