The Hound + The Fox Acoustic 'What Child Is This / Child of the Poor'
“What Child is this
Who laid to rest
On Mary's lap is sleeping?
Whom Angels greet with anthems sweet,
While shepherds watch are keeping?”
Reilly and McKenzie Zamber alternate between the lyrics of “What Child Is This” and “Child of the Poor”. Hearing the two songs together, it feels like they were always meant to be sung as a medley. Both tell a different perspective on the Christmas birth, a reminder of the importance of the Savior.
“Helpless and hungry, lowly, afraid
wrappen in the chill of midwinter;
comes now among us, born into poverty's embrace,
new life for the world.”
While “Child of the Poor” isn’t as well known, it’s another beautiful reminder of God offering hope through humble means.
“Who is this who lives with the lowly,
Sharing their sorrows, knowing their hunger?
This is Christ, revealed to the world
In the eyes of a child, a child of the poor”
As Reilly and McKenzie continue to sing, the begin to overlap the chorus of each song. What an incredibly moving piece! We have chills just listening to this gentle medley about our Savior’s humble birth. We pray that as we all enjoy the holiday festivities, that this true sacrificial gift, Jesus the Christ-child, will be first in our hearts and minds. Let us rejoice that we have a God who loves us so and offered his Son for our salvation!
