It’s the first commandment: “You shall have no other gods before me.” And yet, in modern life, idols often look less like golden calves and more like… career ambitions, relationships, political ideologies, or even our children.

In this devotional, Greg Grandchamp invites us to examine our lives with honest eyes and open hearts. While many things—success, family, patriotism—are inherently good, they can quietly climb to first place in our hearts, displacing God. Even spiritual pursuits can become distractions if they begin to matter more than the God they’re meant to glorify.

Heavenly Father,
I choose to have You, and You alone, sit on the throne of my life. Please open my eyes and heart to recognize any area where I need to make a change. Help me to identify and remove the idols—big or small—that may be taking priority over You. Thank You for Your grace and patience, and for always calling me back.
In the powerful name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

   What’s one step you can take to protect your heart from misplaced priorities?
