Patience is hard for most of us. Lines, traffic, waiting seasons, the slow unfolding of answers we needed yesterday. We live in a world that rewards speed and productivity, and somewhere in that environment, we absorbed the belief that faster is always better and that slow means something has gone wrong.

But growth does not work that way. Bulbs planted in a garden do not hurry because we want them to. They take time and sunshine and water and the right conditions, and the process cannot be rushed without damaging what is trying to grow. Life, and the answers life requires, often work the same way.

Psalm 92:13-14 offers a long and patient view of what it means to be rooted in God. Those planted in the house of the Lord will flourish in His courts. They will bear fruit in old age. They will stay fresh and green. This is not a promise about rapid results or dramatic transformation on a convenient timeline. It is a promise about what happens over the long arc of a life stayed in God, connected to the vine, roots going deeper season by season.

God is not rushed by our growth or frustrated by the lack of it. His work in us is never hurried and never wasted. The slow seasons are not setbacks. They are part of the process, as necessary as sunshine and water to anything that is going to bear genuine and lasting fruit.

Our job is not to rush the growth. It is to remain planted. To stay in the Word, to keep the roots going down rather than looking anxiously for fruit overhead. Because when we remain in Him, the fruit comes not as something we manufactured but as the natural overflow of a life connected to its source.

Young or old, early in faith or decades in, the invitation is the same. Stay planted. Stay connected. God will tend the rest.

Ponder Tonight

The promise of Psalm 92 extends all the way to old age, bearing fruit and staying fresh and green, which means God's work in us does not slow with the seasons of life. The long view of a life rooted in Him is one of abundance that only deepens over time.

Impatience with growth is often connected to impatience with waiting, and both point to the same underlying struggle with trust. Releasing the timeline to God is one of the most repeated and most important acts of faith available to us.

The process of growth, with its storms and slow stretches and apparent inactivity, is never wasted in God's economy. What looks like nothing happening underground is often exactly where the most significant work is taking place.

Remaining planted in the house of the Lord is the one instruction that underlies all the others. Everything else flows from that connection. Without it, even our best efforts produce something fragile. With it, fruit comes as a natural extension of who God is in us.

Your Evening Prayer

Lord Jesus,

When we struggle to rush growth or endure difficult seasons, please remind us that nothing is wasted. The process of growing is hard, especially when life's storms try to uproot us. But You alone hold us down. You plant us in Your house, and as we remain in You, You help us flourish.

Young or old, early in faith or decades in, we surrender our lives to You. You are good, and we trust You, even when the growth is slow and the fruit is not yet visible.

Keep us planted. Keep us connected. And let what grows in us be a natural overflow of You.
