In 2014, he published his memoir, The Promise, or the Pros and Cons of Talking with God, which recounts his spiritual journey and its intersection with his first love, offering a candid and introspective narrative. 

Beyond filmmaking, Murphy is an accomplished musician, having released several concept-driven albums that delve into themes of love, loss, and personal reflection. His music often incorporates elements of storytelling, drawing from his own experiences and relationships. Additionally, he has written a novel titled Chapel Street, a horror story inspired by real-life events, further showcasing his versatility as a storyteller.
