Although Bible Way Baptist Church officially began in 1968, preliminary meetings were held in 1967. In August 1967 eighty-seven (87) born-again believers in Christ gathered in the home of Brother Henry Blevins to discuss the possibilities of organizing a local Baptist assembly. Because the people desire to be pleasing to the Lord and to follow the dictates of the Word of God, they decided to name their new congregation, "Bible Way Baptist Church."
Brother Jim Chandler of Red Bank, Tennessee agreed to serve as Bible Way's first interim pastor until the Lord sent them a full-time minister.
They agreed to rent the basement part of what was then known as the "Wig Warehouse" on Ringgold Road in East Ridge, Tennessee. This was only a temporary housing until land could be secured to build a church building.
Bible Way's first board of trustees located property for sale at 1507 Lakeview Drive in Rossville, Georgia. In April, 1968 the church voted to purchase the property and to start construction of a new building. In June of 1968, less than one year from the time of the first meetings, God had supplied this band of believers with land and a new block building to worship in.
In June, 1968 Bible Way Baptist Church was officially begun. A dedication service for the new congregation was held the same month.
Over the next few years Bible Way stayed faithful to their belief the there was only one way to serve God, "The Bible Way." This congregation held true to their faith in God and the Word of God and God blessed them greatly.
In April of 1971 , the church voted unanimously to call the Reverend Robert D. Henson as their full-time pastor after the resignation of Thomas Bishop in January of 1971. Reverend Henson became affectionately known as Brother Bob. Not long after Brother Bob became pastor, he trusted the Lord for three things for the church. He listed the requests on paper, placed them in a sealed envelope, and gave them to the church treasurer who was instructed to put the envelope in the church safety deposit box until January 1972. At that time the pastor's envelope was opened. the three requests were: 1) for Bible Way to have a bus ministry, 2) for Sunday School attendance to be above 200, and 3) for a new auditorium. By January of 1972 the Lord had provided or plans were being laid for all three items. In 1973, construction of a new auditorium was underway.
Chip Henderson became the first Jr. Church Pastor at Bible Way in January 1985.
In May of 1986 Brother Bob resigned as the Pastor of Bible Way Baptist Church for service of our Lord in another ministry. The words to best describe Brother Robert D. Henson are "soul-winner", "hard-working" and "faithful". Bible Way would have a time of learning over the next year with an interim pastor. Brother Harold Nicholas of Dalton, GA. became pastor in August of 1986 and remained for a year. In October 1987 the church called Brother Vincent Estill to be the new pastor.
Brother Vince Estill holds the distinction of being the youngest preacher ever to minister at Bible Way Baptist Church. He was 29 years old at the time he was called to pastor. Brother Vince was still a student at Tennessee Temple Seminary and continued there and pastoring Bible Way at the same time. After many years of school Brother Vince now holds the title of Dr. Vince Estill, Th.M., D.Min. and we are very grateful that God had chosen him as our pastor. Dr. Estill is still serving, as pastor of Bible Way Baptist Church and at this time has no leading from the Lord to ever leave the church.
In the last 14 years since Dr. Estill came as pastor of Bible Way, God has blessed us with some great expository preaching. As a congregation we are learning sound Biblical truths and are growing in knowledge and service to our Lord.
