I was born in Malaysia, but flew to Aotearoa (New Zealand) in the 80s where I did most of my growing up.
Rap and the Hip-Hop culture became part of the air I breathe through my association with the native Maori and Polynesian communities.
I was formerly known as 'Manchu' (not to be mistaken with DJ Manchu) from the underground Hip-Hop pioneering community that burst into the Auckland (New Zealand) music scene at the start of the 1990s together with Che Fu, King Kapisi, Dam Natives, OMC, MC Ehrman, DJ DLT, DJ Sir-Vere and DJ Manual Bundy, among others.
After a 19 year hiatus, I return as Te Waa, born again through the spirit of Christ Jesus, to spit explicit Biblically founded lyrics hard!
My passion is to instil, through rap, a deeper and more robust sense of confidence and trust within my listeners for the truth of Jesus Christ (1Peter 3:15). To communicate what Christ can do in us if we would allow Him to work His grandiose purpose through each of us for our joy and the good of others.
I call my brand of rap music, ‘God’s own Hip-Hop’ as it is strictly created through Biblical inspiration to glorify God (1Thessalonians 5:11) and to encourage the church to keep worshiping Him with passion and gusto. Selah!
*The origin of the name "Te Waa" is Maori. It means, "The Time", implying that "It's time" that we heard what God has to say to humanity.
Te Waa listens to; Shai Linne, Evangel, Timothy Brindle, Benjamin the Esquire, Cross Movement, S.O., Braile, Muse One, Redeemed Thoughts, B Doe, Flame, Young Joshua and many other Ambassadors of Lyrical Theology who walk the talk. Hard!
Growing up in Aotearoa (NZ), one is bound to become accustomed to reggae music. Te Waa recommends God glorifying reggae from Sherwin Gardner, Troy Anthony, Papa San, Christafari, Monte G, Roge Abergel, Saint Mathew, Jennifer Howland and many more who skank in the same vein.
