As much as I agree with you Mr. Hicks, it is extremely hard when even screaming too harshly at children will cost you your job. My son is a different story, but as a special education teacher, I am expected to take abuse as a part of the job. Unruly students run inner city schools and unless you have a strong administration, you deal with it or change career paths. It's sad that someone with a passion to teach and student loans to pay will have to make a decision like that.

This is how nyc teachers get treated all the time! It's really sad.

YOU CANNOT LET THE TELEVISION EDUCATE YOUR CHILDREN, BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY PROGRAMS THAT PROMOTE DRUGS, SEX OUSIDE MARRIAGE, AND I'M OKAAY YOU'RE OKAY, DO ANYTHING YOU WANT TO! PLUS SARCASM AND REBELLION IN MANY OF THE SITUATIONS PORTRAYED ON TELEVISION, AND THAT'S JUST PART OF THE PROBLEM! PARENTS TRAIN UP YOUR CHILDREN IN THE WAY THEY SHOULD GO, TO KNOW AND LOVE AND SERVE GOD THROUGH A RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST, AND WHEN THEY ARE OLD, THEY WILL NOT DEPART FROM IT (THE FAITH)!

THERE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN KIDS THAT BULLY BUT IT HAS GOTTEN SO OUT OF HAND. PARENTS DON'T TEACH THEIR CHILDREN HOW TO ACT AND THE VIOLENCE IN MOVIES, TV AND GAMES DO NOT HELP. WE ARE A SICK NATION OF PEOPLE ANY MORE WITH NO MORALES OR ACCOUNTING FOR WHAT WE SAY OR DO. SO SAD!

This children are being raised with no values or no morality. I think that they should have done to them what was done to this lady.....I feel sorry for those kids who are now known for this type of nonsense........

What an amazing woman, she didn't even seem to hate them afterwards.

I was made fun of by people as a little kid, I had a gastroentestional tube in my stomach to help me maintain my weight bc I have cystic fibrosis, I was called tube girl, plastic girl, button belly, sick girl. I can honestly say that kids have gotten worse, I would have never acted this way to someone, I don't understand how kids are so mean and parents turn a blind eye to it all. these kids need some good ole fashion butt whippings like we used to get. I honestly feel that is what missing in our society today, good hard core loving disapline from the parents who are supposed to be not only raising but teaching their children.

It is sad to say but this kind of bullying occurs in schools (this extent) and usually it is a 7 8 9 10 11 12 yearold experiencing it. I myself experienced this level of abuse in school. for an adult it is sad and distressing. For me at the ages I esperienced them it was terrifying. To this day I still hear there taunts...... the scars are still there.

@ Samantha, there's just no easy way to say this, but life is not fair, it has it's challenges, and every once in a while you might have to go down with the ship. But then courage is part of being grown, although it's not that fashionable today. There are somethings that, no matter what the law says, grown folks ought not to stand for. Get prosecuted at least once in your life, that way, we can all be like Jesus.

Jeremy, you are right that she would have most assuredly been fired, but we're talking about a woman who didn't even (do her job) write out a report on the behavior of any of these kids long before it came to this. She, in my opinion, is why our the laws seem so messed up and self defeating--I mean she appears to be the victim here, but this is YET another adult who can't act on the simplest of task and responsibility. A REPORT WAS WELL IN HER POWER TO DO time and time again. She set these children up for failure. There is no excuse we should make for ourselves, or have the audacity to wonder what's wrong with our kids, when we are that negligent. In this case, this monitor is gross in her neglect--and as a nation we seemingly rewards her for it. It's a sad testimony.

apparantly you are not aware of the school systems... that lady would've been prosecuted for 'slapping' a child. It happened here in oklahoma. a large teenager threatened and became phyical with a male teacher and because he responded was fired and prosecuted.

...I could start out with some old saying like "it takes a village to raise a child", but I'd be slightly off point. I say she is negligent, first, because she said this was not the first time the kids did her that way, yet she took no actions to correct it, and thereby, help herself or the kids, except for her weak response "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything". - that's pathetic for an adult! Secondly, her job as monitor is to keep the discipline on the bus (that's what she is paid to do), there is nothing on this bus that suggests "discipline" or even an attempt to that end- this lady is just "riding the school bus", because this was her sole purpose there and it was not done. And finally, whether we as adults are working or not; or whether these are YOUR kids or not, you have a moral obligation to use your sphere of influence to help guide our youth in this assimilation process we call "community". It's our duty and we owe it to our children (all of them) to champion good behavior and personal responsibility. Adults, by virtue of their statue and provision, come with a measure of influence and resolve that is un-parallel l to children; only if grown folks would simply stand up an use it for the good of our society. Jerry Sandusky just showed us how he used his influence for evil, Now if we can get some adults to show us how that influence can be used for good. No doubt we all have it -- Damit use it! But again I feel sorry for the monitor, but if we don't stand and act, don't get mad when you become the victim of a society you never tried to fix, or when YOU are being mugged, just tell'em "if you don't have anything good to say..."

BOTH my parents stood united when it came to "applying the rod, belt, switch (green tree twig), shoe etc. They did play and we obeyed. Daddy would whoop you right there where you were as he called it "clowning" even when other people where around and you might have got another one when you got home. Guess what, NONE OF US TURNED OUT TO BE STUDENT SCHOOL SHOOTERS, MURDERERS or just a MENANCE TO SOCIETY!!!

IGNORING, that's just the problem and in the world abroad as well. We/America/World have got to find out backbones again and stand up, speak out and hold accountable ALL those things and people that we know are wrong.
