Why must marriage be defined as being only between a man and woman?-Mary Kassian

But is there any part of the Bible that explicitly limits a man to one wife at a time?

  • 2012-05-24T10:21:54

We are NOT going to accept it.

Sure we can find a scripture in Leviticus to suit our own morale standards, or from Genisis saying there was Adam & Eve, not Adam & Steve. The facts are ( and you can look it up yourselves), up to 70% of America Christian men look at porn on a regular basis in. One in three internet porno watchers are female, 40% of American ministries end in affairs. But the truth is He came for all mankind. Is homosexuality no different than lying or gossiping. All sin shall be judged equally if unrepented. Points to think about. 1) We are not against flesh & blood, but against powers and principalities. 2)Jesus declares that the person judging will be judged, because judging assumes a divine prerogative; final judgment belongs to God alone, and those who seek to judge others now will answer then for usurping God's position. 3) Love one another as you would love yourselves, 4) God love us ALL. 5)Repent of your own sins.

Ryan, you are sadly askew

Mary, Thank you for a simple yet understandable word on marriage and it's God focused origin. No matter how much our world tries to reinterpret the definition of marriage, the fact is that God hasn't/doesn't change. Which means, His word is still relevant for us.

  • 2012-05-21T04:20:44

I HATE it when that happens!!

"Why must marriage be defined as being only between a man and woman." So are we saying that everything that is a sin should be against the law? Its funny the response Christians have to homosexuality. We are trying to hold on to the sanctity of marriage, correct? What about all those people who defile their marriage bed by having sex with someone else? They are defiling marriage and we shouldn't stand for it. Adultery should be against the law and you should be stoned to death for it. We need to protect marriage.

Well I had typed out a nice long reply but It looks like its gone.

"Let the man leave Father and Mother and be joined to his Wife." It's in there friend.

@Dave, I do not try to justify the way I feel. But what I DO KNOW is that Jesus died not just for me but also for you. God's plan was not for us to live this way, in this type of world, but because of sin, we created it. He loves you and I am sure if you really think about it, you can see His love for you. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you, and I guarantee you He will.

I never said "don't tell anyone that they are sinning". I want Christians to start using their brains. Can't we 'be wise in the way we act toward outsiders? Colossians 4 2Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. 3And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. 4Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. 5Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. 1 Corinthians 9 19Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. 20To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. 21To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. 22To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. 23I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings. Don't Christians understand that gay people don't understand why we don't want them to be able to get married. They just think we are mean. Paul is pretty singular minded. He is all about preaching Jesus and trying to win people to Christ. But we are worried about our rights and trying to keep America a "Christian nation"(which it isn't) because we think that if the gays take over we won't have fun anymore. We don't really care about them if it gets in the way of our good time. We all need to stop being so selfish and realize that we have been buried and raised with Jesus. Our life is not our own, we have been bought with a price. God has a mission for us. God has work for his people to do and it isn't saving America. We are to be making disciples, loving each other and everyone else, dying to self and putting others needs above our own. Jesus left and left us here in his place. If we will not be Jesus for homosexuals then no one will. Mark 2 15While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and “sinners” were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. 16When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the “sinners” and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and ‘sinners’?” 17On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” So what do ya think, Joe Sewell, Roger Morin and Paul Sabrina Holmes?

trust me Dave Seitz, God could care less about logic.....people have been trying for years to 'figure Him out' so that in their little minds they can explain Him away & put Him into their nice little scientific boxes. Just when you think you know Him, He shows Himself in a different frame and blows your mind again. He made us for relationship with Him and what an amazingly wonderful God, Father, Friend, Helper, Husband & Savior He is.♥♥♥.

Ryan, do you think the old testament or new testament people had any confusion about what God meant when God said that he found men sleeping with men "detestable"? Or child sacrifice is detestable. etc... Have you read the Old Testament?! It really doesn't sound like it. How many times does it talk about Israel doing even worse things than the nations that were driven out of the land before them. You think God didn't mind those nations doing things that God calls detestable? Now, let's talk about the other commands that WERE specifically for the israelites. Don't MIX 2 types of fabric, don't eat foods x or y. And countless others. Separation was built into their society. God wanted them to stay separate from the surrounding tribes, who did practice detestable things.

Ryan, I've listened to the whole Bible on CD about an hour a day, and I didn't see a vengeful God become a loving forgiving God. I see the same God. I think the two fit together beautifully. "I love how you choose to quote a small part of the Bible that supports your argument". You stopped quoting too soon. Jesus then commands her to stop doing what she's doing.

David Petrey: Get the Gospel of John, or Gospel of Mark, or whatever, on DVD. Watch the whole thing in one sitting. It's really long, but you are left with a VERY different impression than "don't tell anyone that they are sinning" that we all love so much. Give me ONE EXAMPLE from Jesus where someone who was living in sin wasn't called to repent.

Dave, I use to think this way too. I am a Survivor of sexual abuse from my own father and struggled for years to understand it all. You can't imagine the shame and fear that I lived in every day of my life. I never questioned God or asked Him why (this was yrs. after I came through all of this) and I really didn't blame Him thinking that with one wave of His hand that He could have stopped all of this ugliness. I don't know why I felt this way, I just did. One day I was thinking about my dad, and you know what, that 'why' ? came out of me, not in anger, but I honestly wondered why did my dad do this to me? In the softest voice, came a tender answer, "I loved mankind so much, that I gave them 'freewill' It's part of the reason that I died on the Cross." Then this vision came as I stood looking out my kitchen window. "I saw my entire life and the pain of my soul scattered all over the ground. I literally was 'shattered' everywhere and I thought, How will I ever come together and become whole as a person? As sadness filled every fiber of my being, and shame covered me like a second skin, there in the distance I saw this figure approaching. I didn't know or understand who it was or why they were there, but I was drawn to it. As it came closer I saw that it was Jesus, clothed in the Whitest garment I had ever seen! With each step He took, He was bending down and picking up the pieces of my shattered 'soul' that were all over the dirty ground AND He was smiling!! He held each piece up into this incredible light that was surrounding Him and as He did this I could feel His pleasure. He took up every broken piece of me, held it up to His Light and after a long while, there I stood, His Beloved, once broken, scattered, shame filled, now I was made whole by the one who loved me then and loves me now. I am complete IN HIS Love. No more shame, no more shattered pieces of my soul, for He finds pleasure in me!"
