It's not the Mary (the mother of Jesus) of the Bible! that's for sure, there is only one intercessor according to the New Testament and the holy Spirit has not relinquished His position for a mere mortal being that is not omnipresent ..... But it is a sign of the times Christ spoke about in Matt 24:24...

http://www.catholicscomehome.org/mary-the-saints/ This is a good explanation regarding Mary and the Catholic Church's view. I hope it helps. :)

It's not about "respecting" or "not respecting" someone's beliefs. What Carrie was saying was that we don't believe that Mary watches over us, despite being the earthly mother of the Jesus. We believe, based upon the scriptures, that the Holy Spirit, and ministering angels watch over us. I understood from the moment I heard the mother in the video explain she believed it was Mary, that she was probably Catholic. And that's her business. However, it doesn't change my, or Carrie's, or anyone else's particular belief in what we see in this picture. It's not about "not understanding the Catholic Church or its beliefs". I understand what you believe as a Catholic (I've learned a considerable amount about Catholicism in seminary and in the last 20 years of ministry), and it's not an insult what Carrie said. It's simply her stating what SHE believed the picture to be of. A belief that I would agree with, I'll add. So instead of instructing her to be respectful of your beliefs, you might try to follow that same advice.

But there is a hole in that..If Jesus is the only way truth and light then why ask Mary ?

It's not just those that have passed, but those that we know are in heaven such as the angels and saints and Mary, because as Catholics we believe that those who have reached heaven are not dead but alive and in eternity with God. Therefore asking Mary to pray for us is like asking a friend to pray for us when we are going through a hard time. We believe that a priest can forgive sins because Jesus told them, when he instituted the Church, that sins that they forgive are forgiven and sins that they retain are retained.

Karin Whitten-Schichtel you talk to your grandma in Heaven? That isn't possible nor Biblical so that doesn't deal with the issue of praying to Mary at all. The idea that you don't pray to Mary yet you ask her to intercede is completely oxymoronic. If you are talking to her to ask her to intercede then you ARE praying to her.... what do you think praying means? We already have the One who intercedes for us, the Great Intercessor that is Jesus. We don't need another and certainly not one who was blessed but 'just' a human being and nothing more. Do you realise that making Mary anything more than that is to take away from Jesus' humanity, vital for the Gospel to stand as truth?

That's an interesting concept but it is NOT from God's Word. Of course there are angels and they are God's ministering servants and messengers. They do NOT hover around us all the time waiting for something to happen, they don't need to. They are sent by God when He chooses to use them to intervene. We do NOT have guardian angels (another thing that is nowhere in the Bible) and we don't need one because we have a holy and awesome God to guard us instead. They do not 'wait for us to speak' before going into action as that would suggest they are acting on our behest. They respond only to the voice of God who commands them as He wishes. Focus on God alone, not angels. Hebrews 12 v 2 covers that one! By the way, this picture is nothing more than a common photographic aberation. I am a professional photographer and have seen this sort of photo a thousand times. I have taken them myself and I just delete them.... and I am a committed Christian so I am not trying to dismiss angels AT ALL, I only dismiss the non-Biblical, new ageist beliefs that have become so prevalent among some people.

The Most Disturbing Part about this is that arguments are being posted here. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. I John 4:16. Faith and love is all that is being spoken by that family. Real or not! God will cleave to them, closer than anyone who is speaking negative about them. Sometimes Silence should be our only Opinion!

I do not think it is Mary.I think it is Jesus!

Phillip King Being raised Baptist this is something I didn't quite understand. It 's like me asking my grandma, who has passed, to be with my son as he goes to school. I ask Christ first and foremost, but it was explained that those that have past are closer to God than we are. I don't believe we need to go to a priest to be absolved of our sins. That is one big disagreement I have with the issue of confession. The priest is a man and not qualified to give me forgiveness. Only God has that ability. I hope that helped. To be honest I don't really understand a lot about the Catholic church, but I do know, being raised Southern Baptist, that there are misconceptions of Catholicism.

I agree with many people having wrong perceptions of Catholics but how can Mary intercede your prayer when she's past away and only Jesus is the true advocate and intercessor? It's just a question that I've always been curious about. Asking in love and a follower of Jesus.

  • 2013-05-30T23:18:43

Umm. Mary is dead and with Jesus like the rest of the followers of Jesus who past. I believe we all do have angels but you can't base scripture on Mary being a ghost with people. We just need to pray for the enemy to lift the blinders up and for God to show her the truth.
