'On Eagle's Wings' Matt Maher Live Performance

Listen to this wonderful live performance by Matt Maher of the song ‘On Eagle’s Wings.’

“You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord, who abide in His shadow for life
Say to the Lord, ‘My refuge, my rock in whom I trust!’
And He will raise you up on eagles' wings, bear you on the breath of dawn
Make you to shine like the sun, and hold you in the palm of His hand”

The words of this hymn are based on Psalm 91, Exodus 19, and Matthew 13. And it was written and composed by Michael Joncas.

This intimate acoustic version of ‘On Eagle’s Wings’ was performed by Matt Maher as part of his new Lent series called “Breathing Through Lent."

“I love seeing raw versions like this. Just amazing,” comments one person on YouTube after watching the video.

“I love this song and you just made it 10 times better! Awesome rendition!” writes another person online.

Michael Joncas wrote this song after he and his friend, Doug Hall, returned from a meal to learn that Doug’s father had died of a heart attack. Michael remembers wanting to somehow console his friend, so he created a song that would be both prayerful and comforting. He composed the song on his guitar and debuted the now-famous hymn at Doug’s father’s wake.

The song ‘On Eagle’s Wings’ was also quoted by President Biden during his first speech as president-elect. In response to this, Michael Joncas said: "To quote the President-elect, 'I was honored and humbled' to hear him quote 'On Eagle’s Wings' as he set out his initial vision for the country. I pray that the song can serve in some way to help the healing of our nation."

We hope that you enjoyed this acoustic version of ‘On Eagle’s Wings’ Matt Maher and it was able to bring you some encouragement today.
