Tim Hawkins Performs 'The Karen Song'
If you need a good laugh, this is the video for you. Check out Tim Hawkins performing “The Karen Song.”
Tim Hawkins is a well-known Christian comedian. In this video he is on stage in Eden Prairies, Minnesota. While doing a playful tune on the piano, he begins to sing about a woman he runs into named Karen.
This comical sketch is going through the letters of her name. The audience laughs as he does K for kindness, A for attitude, Ruckus, E for evil, and N everyboday knows. He sings the chorus as everyone chuckles “Karen I declare that you’re caring way too much.” He then makes faces at the audience who cheers.
Tim cracks a joke that her face turns red when “screaming at a waitress like she’s going into labor.” He picks that she spanks children that are not even her own. He shares in the chorus, “Brazen and caucasian and a little out of touch.” As he sings humorous lyrics about Karen, we cannot help but think about the kind of person we do not want to be, a “Karen.” He says she wants to give opinions on things that don’t affect her.
As we ponder the message in this song, it is well thought out and meant for a comedy show, however there is a lot of truth to the concept of “Karen.” She seems out of control, unkind, and harsh. All things that we can all be if we are honest with ourselves. However, Jesus transforms our hearts and with the Holy Spirit, we can conquer these sinful ways and be reminded of the kind of people we desire to be in Him.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23
