37-Year-Old Teacher Gains the R-E-S-P-E-C-T of the Judges
Meet Beverley Trotman, the dynamic 37-year-old teacher who gained the R-E-S-P-E-C-T of the judges on The X Factor UK!
After a quick sneak peek of Beverley’s audition, we are introduced to her on a more personal level. From Luton, England, Beverley is a primary school teacher and dreams of singing on a “really good stage.” She describes singing “the register” sometimes at school, putting each child’s name to music. Beverley says that some of her students know she’s auditioning for The X Factor UK, and they have encouraged her to do her best. That’s exactly what she plans to do!
The video takes us to Beverley’s time in front of the judges, where she is addressed by Simon Cowell. After a quick chat, she begins—and not in a slow build, easy way either! Beverley immediately belts out the most memorable line of her song selection, which is Aretha Franklin’s “Respect.” After a bit of that tune, she reminds the judges of another of Aretha’s hits when she sings a couple lines from “Think.”
Beverley’s proper, sweet demeanor is replaced with bold, big notes. Though still sweet, we can see that she probably knows how to handle a bunch of rowdy youngsters! Upon finishing, Simon comments on her confidence, and the other judges weigh in. While Dannii Minogue loved the performance, Louis Walsh feels a bit lukewarm about the audition. In the end, Beverley gets three yesses and is thrilled to share Simon’s comment with her husband as she leaves the audition room. Simon has told her that hers was one of the best auditions he’d seen that season!
Back at home, Mrs. Trotman enters her classroom to give her pupils the good news, and they couldn’t be any happier! It’s clear that her students love her just as much as Simon and Dannii did during the audition!
Beverley returned to teaching after her “Unforgettable Audition” some years ago. However, she came in 6th place during her season and went to record a worship album entitled Voice of Hope. What an inspiration she must have been to her students!
“Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.” Psalms 100:2
