10-Year-Old Hero Saves Little Sister From House Fire
Check out this story of a 10-year-old hero who saves her little sister from a terrifying house fire.
Roselin Castro is a 10-year-old from Iowa who recently experienced a traumatic event with her little sister.
“I went to go check the window. And then there were flames. I was terrified. I started crying and then told my sister to run out of the house quickly,” Roselin shared. “Our house was burning down; I was scared.”
After rushing her 7-year-old sister outside and away from the burning flames, the two girls flagged down a man who was walking his dog.
“We started screaming for help,” said Roselin. “People came, called 911, and called the ambulance.”
Mike Whitsell, the West Des Moines Fire Marshall, also shared his thoughts on the fire. “That fire was burning very intensely, and it was spreading rapidly,” he said. “So, for them to be able to get outside, get everybody outside without any injuries, we’re very fortunate. We’re very happy for that.”
Roselin’s mother was dropping off her 3-month-old baby and 4-year-old son at a daycare at the time of the fire, and when she got back home to see the flames, she was in complete shock. She was also terrified that her two daughters didn’t make it out of the house.
Thankfully, because of Roselin’s observant nature, the two girls made it out of the fire unharmed. The family’s dog was also saved, and firefighters were clear about how important it was that the little girls didn’t try to save the dog on their own.
The cause of the fire is still undetermined, but what is known is that the family has lost everything. They have no place to go.
A GoFundMe was set up to help the Castro family get back on their feet. And even though Roselin shared that all of their toys, shoes, and clothes are gone, they are just grateful to be alive. “The thing that’s more important is family, not other stuff,” the wise 10-year-old shares.
God bless this family with community and support during this trying time.
