The Homeschool Awakening Kirk Cameron Explores Putting Fun And Faith Back Into Learning
Now streaming on Pure Flix, The Homeschool Awakening stars Kirk Cameron as he explores putting fun and faith back into learning!
Take a look at this trailer, and you might decide to take a turn at homeschooling your children or grandchildren. As the clip begins, we see three relatively recent news snippets in which individuals challenge the idea that parents are entitled to decide what’s being taught to their kids. Then, we see an exasperated Kirk Cameron, flipping off the TV and weary of the messages.
The Homeschool Awakening is Kirk’s effort to set the record straight on homeschooling. He and 17 families discuss the ins, outs, and honest answers to homeschooling’s most frequently asked questions.
The trailer offers a quick breakdown of the conversations featured in the documentary film. We first see parents describe how homeschoolers are often viewed—how they themselves once viewed homeschoolers. They use the following unflattering words: reclusive, weird, cult, and abnormal.
Those same parents then explain how their beliefs changed. One references a hurtful experience in public school, and another recalls being convicted that she should not follow the traditional school path by “dropping them off somewhere else.” That mom is Chelsea Noble, Kirk’s wife, and the mother of their 6 kids.
As images of homeschool life flash across the screen, homeschooling parents share their new thoughts. They feel uniquely qualified by the Kingdom of Heaven to educate their kids. They claim responsibility for what goes into their children’s hearts and minds. They believe that by homeschooling, they are demonstrating daily that their kids are worth the effort and sacrifice. And one sweet momma says that what she first considered a sacrifice has been an incredible gift to her and her family. These folks are converts!
In the last third of the clip, families cite the benefits of homeschooling. Flexibility, freedom to choose, and control of content and time are a few. Most important, though, is the fact that no one else is better equipped to teach their children than they. Two of their homeschooled kids, who don’t appear weird at all, praise their parents for providing the education they received.
They ultimately describe schooling done their way as an adventure.
Pure Flix has been providing wholesome, family-friendly viewing alternatives since 2005. Homeschooling has been around far longer, but few have jumped on board. Now may be the time to embrace an educational alternative and do something “out of the box.”
“Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants.” Deuteronomy 32:2
