Carol Burnett's Comedic Genius Takes On Inferior Office Products In Laugh-Out-Loud Sketch

The legendary Carol Burnett used her comedic genius to take on inferior products in a laugh-out-loud sketch from The Carol Burnett Show.

It’s been said that comedy is harder than drama. That makes a lot of sense. It has to be easier to make people cry and shed tears than it is to get those same people laughing hysterically. If you want someone to cry, simply play one of those commercials featuring abused and neglected pets with the Sarah McLachlan music playing over it. Everyone has to turn away from those.

However, comedy is much more subjective. What one person believes to be hilarious may not tickle the funny bone of the next guy. That’s why when people are skilled in the comedic arts, they are often referred to as a “comedic genius.” That title fits a limited number of people, including Carol Burnett.

In a clip posted on YouTube, Carol plays an old, frumpy secretary who has been called in to dictate a letter from her boss, who is upset about a recent correspondence he’s received.

From the moment Carol entered the room, she had the audience laughing. Her exaggerated walk and dress are enough to cause a swell of laughter. But as Carol gets started writing out the letter, things go from bad to worse for her.

Carol has a pencil snap on her. She sends the top of a typewriter flying out of the window, pours coffee on her boss’s desk and puts her foot through the wall.

Eventually, the outrageous and gut-busting skit ends with Carol dangling helplessly from the ceiling. This all takes place without her boss noticing any of the mishaps.

Throughout the clip, the studio audience roars with laughter as they look upon Carol’s many misfortunes. Carol keeps everyone laughing without even saying one word in the nearly 5-minute skit!

Proverbs 17:22 “A glad heart makes a healthy body, but a crushed spirit makes the bones dry.”
