In ancient times, one’s name was a prophetic declaration of their character or destiny. When God revealed himself to Abraham it was as El-Shaddai, a description of Him as the Almighty God. He wanted Abraham to know He had the power to fulfill His promises to multiply Abraham exceedingly. But this almighty God had a name, and it was not until hundreds of years later that it was revealed to Abraham’s descendants.
