Sean Rodriguez Turns a Season of Growth Into a Declaration of Faith on 'Just Like God' EP

“Even when the hills too big to climb / Even when the waves keep rising high / I’ll smile.”

It is an unexpected response to an impossible situation. But for Sean Rodriguez, the next line explains everything:
“And when they ask why I’ll say / God is on my side.”

That declaration sits at the heart of Rodriguez’s new Just Like God EP, releasing September 25 through WieRok Records. The three-song project brings together his previously released title track with two new songs, “God Is On My Side” and “The Day He Made,” offering a snapshot of an artist whose growing career has become increasingly centered on songs of direct, accessible faith.

The EP arrives after a significant season for Rodriguez, including his largest number of headline-stage appearances yet at major Christian music festivals and a recent two-week radio tour across Australia in support of the new music.

But the road to Just Like God began well before 2026.

For many listeners, their introduction to Rodriguez came through “It Is Finished,” his collaboration with Christian rock band Disciple. The song became a breakout Christian rock radio hit across 2024 and 2025, spending 10 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on Christian Music Weekly’s Rock chart. Its run also included 18 consecutive weeks in the Top 5, 23 consecutive weeks in the Top 10 and 32 consecutive weeks in the Top 20.

The success established Rodriguez within Christian rock, but his next release revealed another part of the story.

On January 23, 2026, Rodriguez released “Just Like God,” co-written and produced with GRAMMY and Dove Award-winning producer Seth Mosley. Musically, the song moved toward the Christian AC and contemporary Christian sound Rodriguez had increasingly wanted to explore.
The subsequent radio campaign formally introduced Rodriguez to Christian AC programmers nationwide. Over the course of the campaign, “Just Like God” was added into rotation at 20 stations and reached No. 51 on Mediabase.

Rather than leaving that song behind and moving immediately into an unrelated release, Rodriguez built upon it.

The resulting Just Like God EP uses the title track as a familiar foundation while introducing two songs that have already spent months developing lives of their own in front of audiences.

The first is the project’s focus track, “God Is On My Side.”

Its message is not that following God eliminates difficult days. In fact, the song repeatedly acknowledges the opposite. There are mountains. There are rising waves. There are lions and giants.

What changes is the perspective of the person standing in front of them.

The song draws upon some of Scripture’s most familiar images of impossible circumstances and uses them as reminders that faith is not ultimately confidence in our own ability to overcome something. It is confidence in the God who remains present through it.

Rodriguez sings about walking with “the one who walks on water” and asks listeners to remember the God who speaks peace to storms, heals, sets people free and can turn trouble into testimony.

That is what gives the central image of the song its power: Rodriguez can smile before the problem has disappeared.

It is not denial. It is assurance.

“God Is On My Side” has already been given an unusual opportunity to prove that message outside the studio. Rodriguez incorporated the song into his 2026 live set throughout his extensive summer touring schedule, where it became a set-list staple and crowd favorite months before its official release.

The EP’s second new track finds its inspiration in another familiar biblical truth.

“The Day He Made” draws from Psalm 118:24 and the declaration, “This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
The song begins not with a dramatic miracle, but with something that happens every morning:

“I woke up to forgiveness / A breath of brand new life.”

From there, Rodriguez reframes an ordinary day as evidence of God’s grace.

Yesterday can become a lesson. Tomorrow can be entrusted to faith. Today is where life is actually happening, and that makes another breath, another sunrise and another opportunity to praise God worth celebrating.

The idea emerged after Rodriguez performed at a Christian music festival with more than 15,000 people in attendance. In the aftermath of the show, he found himself reflecting on the journey that had brought him to that moment and on the stories of God’s faithfulness he had heard from people around him that day.

The response was gratitude.

That gratitude became “The Day He Made.”

Appropriately, the song has served as Rodriguez’s live show opener throughout 2026, inviting audiences into the same decision at the beginning of each performance: this is the day we have been given, so there is reason to rejoice.

Both “The Day He Made” and “God Is On My Side” were co-written and produced with Mosley and mixed by Michael “X” O’Connor, continuing the creative team behind the original “Just Like God” single.

The continuity between the three songs is more than musical.

Each approaches faith from a slightly different point of view.

“Just Like God” helped establish Rodriguez’s current direction. “The Day He Made” looks at the grace contained in what God has already given. “God Is On My Side” looks toward whatever may be ahead and declares that the believer will not face it alone.

Those messages have been carried across Rodriguez’s largest touring season to date.

His touring footprint has grown steadily from 2024 through 2026, with this year bringing his greatest number of headline-stage appearances at major Christian festivals. His industry presence has expanded as well, including appearances at NRB in both 2025 and 2026 and a performance at CMB Momentum this year.

Just ahead of the EP release, Rodriguez traveled to Australia for two weeks of radio promotion, extending the reach of the new music beyond the United States.

Taken together, those milestones tell a story of career growth. But the songs themselves keep returning to something more fundamental.
Another day is a gift.

An impossible mountain does not mean God has disappeared.

And faith does not have to wait until the outcome is known before it rejoices.

That may be the simplest way to understand Just Like God.

For Rodriguez, the new EP captures a season in which stages have gotten larger and opportunities have grown, while the message at the center of the music has become increasingly straightforward.

“The Day He Made” says there is reason to be grateful for today.
