What It's Like to Have an Autistic Brother?

  • 2013-12-23T11:54:24

We have an Autistic Grandson that is five and a four year old grandson! It is amazing to see how Jackson the four year old takes on the role of being Noah's care giver! Noah has vision problems so Jackson is his eyes he protects him and takes care of him by not letting anyone hurt him!! They play and tussle but no one else can! Noah is so special and has come along ways while Jackson is just as special being the little brother yet so wise beyond his years to be the care giver he chooses to be for Noah! Thank you for posting this! It is a blessing to know that even though Autistic children are different it's like they want to prove the use to be impossible for them but now with all the programs and love and understanding an Autistic child can lead a pretty normal life and is such a blessing to everyone! Our Noah is like the saying "When life serves you Lemons make Lemonade"!

Yes, it is important for all children to see this. It will help them to understand rather than ridicule. Bless you for being such good brothers to each other.

This was so awesome to see. I can imagine this to be my six and ten year old boys in the future, and that I actually see somewhat already in a younger capacity. My six year old relates to his older brother, who has autism, so very well, and they are super close!! They miss each other terribly when separated, and my six year old watches over his big brother in a very special way already......Way to go my Caden and Cam...much love..mom

Bless your heart Spencer for loving and taking good care of your older brother. I had goosebumps watching this video and listening how you described your brother and his being autistic, I did not feel any tone of complain and disrespect in your voice towards your brother, but, a love that goes beyond any one's understanding. He is lucky having you and am sure he feels even more lucky having you as his thoughtful, caring and loving brother.
