Elephant PAINTS Self-Portrait - UNBELIEVABLE!

It wasnt so much God's creation, as the keeper of the elephant torturing it until it did as it was told.

Dwarf elephants did evolve on a small island of Indonesia, not much bigger than pigs. The island is called Flores, and many species evolved dwarfism on this island, including a species of human, homo florensis.

I mean an amazing ear/trunk. The feet had nothing to do with the act. (ba-dum-bum)

This is actually very sad. God tube- Please remove this video! This oversight is understandable because it is difficult to drag your eyes away from the brushes that are making the lines and spots. However, if you do so, you will notice that, with each mark, the mahout tugs at his elephant's ear. He nudges it up and down to get the animal to make a vertical line, or pulls it sideways to get a horizontal one. To encourage spots and blobs he tugs the ear forward, towards the canvas. So, very sadly, the design the elephant is making is not hers but his. There is no elephantine invention, no creativity, just slavish copying. Investigating further, after the show is over, it emerges that each of the socalled artistic animals always produces exactly the same image, time after time, day after day, and week after week.

I have always had a love and fascination for elephants and see a very human-like quality in them. I know that they are one of, if not the, most intelligent creatures on the planet but I also see them as moral to some degree but I agree with some other posters in that I found this video somewhat disturbing in that an elephant in the wild does not paint even with mud. I am grateful to the poster who added a link as to how these elephants are trained to do this; I assume that there is a line on the page that they follow but I'd really rather see them in the wild. I would not pay for an elephant painting although I would and have given money to fund for the care of orphaned elephants. We need to be very wise and shrewd where these things are concerned. The skeptic in me also immediately wondered if this video was for real or not.

Thanks for the link Deanna. Training animals for human entertainment is wrong. We refuse to attend circuses that use animals for the same reason. And Joanne, if you look at the beginning of this video you will see that the trainers are not African but Asian, most likely from Thailand. They are also Asian Elephants, not African.

The article I attached explains that the elephants are not actually drawing pictures, but they are actually drawing lines based on the tugs of their mahouts (trainers) on their ears. Still an amazing feat. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1151283/Can-jumbo-elephants-really-paint--Intrigued-stories-naturalist-Desmond-Morris-set-truth.html

I'm pretty sure god wouldn't approve of the torture required to make this magnificent beast do these trite amusing things for humans to awe at.

Deanna, thank you for sharing those links. The elephant's skill is truly amazing, but after reading the article and watching that video it is clear that feeding this market with positive feedback is cruel. It does not take away from God's amazing detail in his creations, but it should be known that these elephants were trained harshly in order to memorize these movements.

With respect to your comment Deanna because confined wild animals upsets me also but I have heard of an orohange for elephants in Africa for those abandoned as babies as a result of poaching and possibly this is one? This could be a protective organization rather than a "zoo." On the case of training elephants to perform, I can't imagine how on this earth one would train an elephant to paint a self portrait, so detailed at that and to darken some of the lighter lines? I believe animals have souls also and this little one just shines! :)

I still cant believe what my eyes are seeing....It's amazing...i wish my cheers mostly to the Trainer of that elephant, and next to the famous Painter(elephant)....it proves God does the Things in His Knowledge.
