Amen Faith!

I totally agree with you Ms. Hamill. It's so sad. I know he's just trying to be funny but he should think about Who he is using as the punchline. I would suggest people read "Why I Left the CCM Movement." Excellent read and really changed the way I think about CCM. God is HOLY, PURE and PERFECT. There is no need to joke like Tim did in this post.

DON'T JUDGE! I believe that God uses whatever it takes to win whomever HE WILLS! And yes! He uses this to win those and to bless those who this reaches. PRAISE GOD FOR THOSE WHO DARE TO SPREAD HIS LOVE AND MERCY! Even if this offends you! We don't see things the way that God sees them. "Matthew 7:16-20 King James Version (KJV). 16 Yes shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20 Wherefore by their fruits yes shall know them." We have no idea how many people this man will WIN for Christ. I love it!

For all you sticks-in-the-mud who are saying this is "sinful" - you are the reason why some people don't like the church. You sound like the Pharisees, all pious and high on your horses. I have seen Tim Hawkins live several times now and he is a true, humble man of God who uses his talent to glorify God. At his last concert, there were people from many Christian denominations, and even some from the Mormon church as well as some Agnostics and Atheists. Our God has given Tim an amazing talent and a platform to reach many who would never step foot into a church service or speak to people like those who are casting judgement on here. God also created laughter and wants us to have JOY in our salvation. Sometimes it IS okay to laugh and be silly. And as Jesus Himself said, "He who is without sin, cast the first stone." You had better get down off your high horses quick, because it is really painful when you get bucked off.

You should remember that most hymns are old tavern tunes sung by drunk people. The only way the early church could sing hymns was by using the tunes the general public already knew. At least now, the contemporary movement is trying to be original with their music and lyrics and not flat out copying.

  • 2012-11-13T17:01:41

Why do you make the videos stop all the time. Is it so they cannot be copied?

  • 2012-11-13T17:01:29

Love it!

I think the point that Tim is trying to poke fun at is the fact that sometimes people come into church wanting to be entertained, and not necessarily to worship. So putting the words of a worship song to Led Zeppelin music, would end up entertaining people, and a lot of people would still walk out thinking they worshiped. Now, I encourage many of you to remember that most of the hymns in our hymnals are Christian lyrics thrown on top of old bar tunes and other popular music. They didn't have a way to copy music for everyone, so they needed to use tunes they were already familiar with. So slow your negative comments. This is Tim doing what he does, finding the things we take for granted in church and poking fun at them. We aren't going to win anyone over by constantly spewing negativity. Some of these comments make me sad, because I know they're being said in other places.

I was in a profetic confrence last night. We had rappers that are singing worship music to gangs down in East L.A and many are coming to God's Kingdom! All of this group are X gang members. The leader of the group shared that before he was saved the only thing that would have reached him was music and that's how he came to the Lord but it was done with his kind of music, RAP. That's how he reaches these lost souls in gangs. Yes, it made my head hurt, but that's me. So if Tim Hawkins wants to revise Led Zepplin, God be with him! The Lord works in mysterous ways!

It's pretty easy to sit on the sidelines an be critical - but consider this - the writer of such hymns as "Blessed Assurance", "Pass Me Not Oh Gentle Savior", and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus." - Francis Crosby - often used Scottish and Welsh tunes as well as music from Stephen Foster in the writing of her hymns. I've only read a few of the posts here - but what makes Worship Music sacred? Is it the label we attach to a song by calling it worship music? Is the words, the melody, the arrangement? I don't think so - what makes it sacred is the One it is intended for - it is the Object of the song and not the mechanics.
