(4) It must be thankful (Ep. 5:20). (5) It must be in the name. of Jesus Christ (Ep. 5:20). (6) It must be based on the. Word of Christ (Col. 3:16). (7) It must be sung with. grace in the heart to the Lord (Col. 3:16).

Great sermon Jeff! if were going to stop listening to music made by non-christians, we might as well stop buying clothes or art or food or anything made from non-christians. When I listen to music or look at art I keep this Bible verse in mind: Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things."

It seems like this guy is trying to bridge the gap between Jesus and the world with his points of view and it will never happen. He is missing a very important aspect in his analysis. What about the artists who produce the music? Are they walking in the light? The world is against us as Christians and to purchase or listen to music from secular artists is like giving weapons to the enemy. By supporting these artists, we are giving them more money to turn around and promote worldliness. "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect." Romans 12:2 Granted, there are a few decent songs out there that don't mention God, or Christ in them. Let's be realistic. But they really are few and far between. It's one of those things I would rather stay away from when possible, than to try dabble in compromise.

I used to be a fan of this guy but I am drawing myself away from what he says. should christians listen to secular music, should we as christians even be having this discussion at all seeing the word of GOD is so black and white and these issues. What happens when we listen to wordly music is that we get caught up in a spirit of the world and the GOD tells us in HIS word that we are not to love the world nor the things that are in the world. GOD's word also tells us not to be conformed to this world or the worlds ways of doing things but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. And I would agree that not all secular music is bad but the thing is wjy listen a song that glorifies the world when you can listen to a song that glorifies GOD I feel that there is far to much leaniancy in the church today and not enough of good solid bible based teaching far too much luke warm teaching going on and not enough of good solid teaching that challenges us and provokes us.

well I disagree, scripture tells us to guard our mind! and not to ever compromise, Carlos Satana plays music without lyrics alot of the times but many of his interviews he'll tell you he speaks with a spirit( a demon) named "Metatron" "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;" Miguel is right do the research on your artist before listening to them.

"Lucifer" was the director of music in heaven before he was condemned. There are many artists that do produce music that is artistically excellent but with motives and dedications to the enemy of our souls. I agree that there is music that does not point to Jesus and still has a good message. However, I know that all music has its author's heart behind it just as David's heart was in the music through the playing of his harp and it was this that brought soothing to the king's heart. There is a line just like in most areas of our life that God says not to cross. If we really want to glorify Him and live for Him, why should we live trying to get as close as possible to the line without crossing to the point of disobedience instead of trying to stay as far away possible to the line in accordance to a heart of worship to our Lord? Now worship is not about music, it is a lifestyle and if one gets too deep and selective into the barometer of "what is secular but still good" or "how can I make this song a metaphor that parallels the gospel", we are not making it about Him but about us, and this can be deadly and misleading. Don't play with fire, the scripture guides us to guard our minds. Do the research on who you listen to. Remember that the devil is a deceiver and a liar and he appears as an angel of light trying to make us stumble.

I do listen to secular songs sometimes, I can take a secular song and turn the words in to glorifying God and gives me joy and peace. I love all music when it makes me feel good in the spirit and some can bring me to my knees in prayer to God. I do pray about it. Good message here. Thanks for sharing. God Bless You.
