'Lightyear' Discover Buzz's Backstory In New Disney Film

Check out this movie trailer for the new Disney film ‘Lightyear’ where we discover Buzz’s backstory.

“You know his name, now discover his story. On June 17, see Disney and Pixar’s #Lightyear, only in theaters,” reads the caption of the video.

This is the origin story we didn’t know we needed! Disney said Lightyear is "the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear—the hero who inspired the toy—introducing the legendary Space Ranger who would win generations of fans."

In the trailer we see Buzz Lightyear blast off into space with a cute mechanical cat who accompanies him in his spacecraft. When Buzz touches down on what seems to be an unfamiliar planet, his robot cat informs him that he’s somehow journeyed decades into the future.

While one of the first faces Buzz sees in the future is a familiar one who he mistakes for his friend Alisha, Izzy, played by Keke Palmer, informs him that Alisha was her grandmother. It quickly becomes clear that Buzz has wandered much, much farther than anyone intended.

The ‘Lightyear’ movie is directed by Angus MacLane, who also directed ‘Finding Dory,’ and produced by Galyn Susman.

"Buzz's world was always something I was excited about," Angus MacLane said in a statement. "In 'Toy Story,' there seemed to be this incredible backstory to him being a space ranger that's only touched upon, and I always wanted to explore that world further. So my 'Lightyear' pitch was, 'What was the movie that Andy saw that made him want a Buzz Lightyear toy?' I wanted to see that movie. And now I'm lucky enough to get to make it."

We can’t wait to see the story of ‘Lightyear’ this summer! Make sure you catch this great movie that looks like it will be loads of fun for the whole family!
