Following the events of "Love's Unending Legacy," eight years after being adopted by schoolteacher Missie Tyler and her husband, Sheriff Zach Tyler, 18-year-old Belinda Tyler's life in the 1890's town of Anderson's Corner is suddenly pulled in different directions. She believes that it is her purpose to heal others, and as she endeavors to convince the town doctor to take her on as an apprentice despite his reservations of training a woman, she begins to fall for a visiting New York lawyer. Tempering her love for him with his desire for a traditional wife and family back East, Belinda wonders if sometimes one dream is all you can have.
