The Red White Family has been singing for the Lord for over sixty six years. Our father, Red White, began singing at an early age. After marrying and having four children, he began teaching his children how to play and sing Bluegrass music.
Red always dreamed of his family singing and playing music across this great country. Red, Gwen, and Barbara began the dream over 35 years ago, singing and playing both Bluegrass and Bluegrass Gospel music up and down the East coast. They were called, ÃâRed White and BluegrassÃâ. Back in the 60Ãâs and 70Ãâs, Red had a gospel TV program (The Red White Show) out of Wilmington, NC every Sunday morning.
In 1992, William, RedÃâs eldest son joined the group and began working with the family ministry. Also that same year, the group had their name changed to ÃâThe Red White FamilyÃâ. In 1993, Gwen had an accident crushing both of her ankles. In 1996, Red had suffered a heart attack and a light stroke. Because of Red and GwenÃâs health, they had to put down the instruments and the family crossed over to Southern Gospel music. For the past sixteen years they have enjoyed singing Southern Gospel music. In January 2000, Red past away and the family continued singing for the Lord.
In September 2008, GwenÃâs son Chris wanted to start working with the group. He began learning to play the upright bass and singing harmony. After a few months working with the group, he picked up the Dobro. ItÃâs unbelievable how Chris has progressed playing this instrument. The group could tell that their direction for the family ministry was starting to change. After a few months of singing both Southern and Bluegrass Gospel music, the family could see the drive to go back to where it all began was inevitable. After performing the first part of 2009, the family decided they needed a banjo picker if they were going to cross back over to the bluegrass field. Once again, God has worked wonderfully in their lives and ministry. Back in June of 09, Gwen and Barbara ran into an old friend that played the banjo for Red and the girls back in the 70Ãâs. The group had some dates that they wanted to add the banjo in and this turned out to be a great reunion.
In June on 09, we have added to our group a fine gentleman and awesome banjo picker. We would like to welcome Randy Smith from Monroe, NC. He picks the five string as smooth as they come. Randy will also bring an unusual sound that this group has not had for over 50 years (three part male harmony). He has very good vocals. Randy adds the seasoning that is needed for this group to make the crossover ÃâBACK TO BLUEGRASSÃâ. Our family is very excited about this move. This is a dream our father had for his family for many years. Hopefully, we will be able to bring back some old memories from the past and create some new memories for the future. We look forward to seeing you and invite you to come out to hear our new sound. Our love for God has not changed nor the desire to sing gospel music. Mom and dad are Godly parents and our family was brought up and taught to serve God. It is our desire ÃâTo Share Heaven with YouÃâ through Bluegrass Gospel music. This is and always will be our mission. You have read about us now; allow me to introduce to you The Red White Family Ministries and what we play.
