"And the greatest of these is Love".

Alright... this really touched my heart. The other day my parents and I were at Panera's Restaurant. As we were walking to find a table to sit down at... I noticed a homeless man sitting at a table... with just a glass of tea. He was so skinny and dirty. As my parents and I were sitting down I realized I could give him my salad with chicken on it. I already had a cup of soup and bread which was plenty for me. I told my parents "I am going to give my salad to that homeless man over there." My mom said... "You don't have to do that." So I said... "I will be very quiet about it." "Ok" she said. As I approached him he looked up at me with such a sweet but hopeless look... as if life itself has humbled this man. I said "Would you like this chicken salad? They are really good. I don't need it. I have soup and bread." He said "Yes... thank you. Thank you so much. Thank you maam. Thankyou." "Your welcome. I hope you enjoy it" I said quietly. After we finished eating... I went back to him and spoke with him for about 15 minutes. I asked if I could pray for him... he said "Yes maam. Thankyou." I told him about 'Star of Hope' homeless shelter (Houston's best Christian homeless shelter). I gave him the address and the phone number. I hope he got some help. I know a lot of homeless are afaid of homeless shelters... or just don't like being away from what they are used to. But anyway... it felt sooo good to help him. Jesus said..."When you have done it unto the least of these my brethren you have done it unto me." I felt like I had just given my chicken salad not only to that homeless man... but somehow also to Jesus! It was a wonderful feeling... like your alive... when you do something for Jesus. I could feel His presence as I prayed and encouraged this precious homeless man. Oh... it just breaks my heart. You know if that was my brother or sister or mother or father or good friend sitting there... with no food, no home, no place to go... would we leave them there? No of course not. We would say..."What are you doing here? Come with me. You will not be hungry. You will not be homeless. You can come with me. I will help you. I love you!" Truly... are these people any different than our own family. They were made the image of God. How can we let any image of God, any brother or sister, even stranger on the street... go hungry, naked, cold, dirty, homeless and living like an animal. Oh this sooo breaks my heart! Even wild dogs have it better. Oh I wish I could build another Christian homeless shelter in Houston. There are just not enough shelters. I would love to take take them all in... and be there mama. :) They are so precious. I see Jesus in them.

Yep, Kim this really pulled my heart strings!!!!!! THanks, I needed this...

  • 2014-07-11T11:42:28

Kim, made me cry... because what you said is sooo sooo true it is the hugs that probably meant more than anything....

I agree that it is wonderful what he is doing in giving the shoes and socks, and even the shirt off his back. BUT, what impresses me even more is that he is not afraid to hug these people! Many are willing to donate to the poor and homeless, but certainly don't want to actually get close to, or TOUCH, someone who may not have had a bath in months. The fact that this man didn't care and wasn't afraid to touch "unclean" people is what REALLY strikes me about this video! People NEED human touch...it is vital to their overall well-being.

Christ said do your alms in secret, I can't help think this is what today's narcissistic church looks like when he hands the guy the T-shirt with his name blazon across it, not Christ's. The homeless gentleman should of charged him for advertising. He could of blurred his own face and name on the T-shirt out of the video but then you don't get your instant reward and praise from men. I'm sure Omar does plenty of good when nobody is lookin but this is just the discernment I got from watchin this clip.

The scripture you quote is true, nevertheless I don't think that was the message he was trying to convey. He did not seem to be seeking glory. I look at this video with eyes in my head and heart as a reminder of what some of us have and others don't. Think of it as refresher training in taking care of our Brothers & Sisters.

Thank-you so much for your heart. Praying that God will continue to bless you as you bless others. Definitely sharing this video.

What a wonderful way to teach his son generosity and love for his neighbour. Too many snub those who are not as fortunate. Yes, there are those that pretend to be homeless simply to get free money and food. I have faith that God will help me to identify those who are playing on the generosities of others. Please don't pretend homeless/poor people don't exist. Everyone can afford a smile and a genuine hello!

That is true. I am thankful God is full of second chances.

Absolutely heart warming! I have tears. I live in a small town, and waitress in a small snack shop, I write out about 50 guest checks a day. Every day on the back of my checkbook, I keep track of how many personal compliments I give. Whether it be the color of her nail polish, new hair style, or a mans colonge, or the color of his shirt.. When the children are well behaved, I ALWAYS tell them that it was a pleasure to have waited on them, and thank them for using their manners. If its an older person, sometimes I buy their meal and tell them another customer paid for it ( this way the dont feel obligated to leave me a bigger tip ) sometimes just a hug when their leaving will make their day! Some days I may have only a few marks, and other days I amaze myself!
