We must all live good lives to honor their sacrifices...

This is one of the best calls to true discipleship found in the movies. And yet, as the forgiven sinner knows, there's nothing we can do to ever fully repay what Jesus won for us in His dying in our place. But the wonderful truth is: that same Grace that bought our salvation also is present with us to help us walk worthy of His calling... to "earn it". Our Captain was not only slain for us, but was also raised for us- to live in & through us as we become like Him! Thank-you to all American and Heavenly soldiers.

This is a very inspirational scene from the end of Saving Private Ryan. What it unfortunately misses in the seconds leading up to this exchange is the seeming insurmountable situation of the advancing enemy as the Captain, played by Tom Hanks is shot in the chest. Facing certain death, he continues the fight against an advancing enemy tank with nothing more than a hand gun as he lay bleeding out. To his last breaths, he is determined to complete his assigned mission - to save the life of Private Ryan. In his last seconds, he makes the simple request of Ryan to "Earn This - - Earn It". For all the sacrifice that was made in the interest of saving one man against amazing odds. Though this is a fictional story line, there is such a man who has made such a sacrifice; fought to his last breath; faced an oppressive enemy; and did so for you and I. Let's take the New Year as an opportunity if we have not already done so to begin to "Earn This"!
