Teachers And Cheerleaders Face Off In Epic Dance Duel

Every school creates and tweaks its customs and traditions over the years, but one Seattle school has teachers and cheerleaders facing off every year for an epic dance duel!

Founded in 1954, Bishop Blanchet High School was the first Catholic co-ed high school in the Archdiocese of Seattle. The school’s enrollment is approximately 950 students in grades 9-12, and the school boasts 16,000 alumni.

Annually, during BBHS’s homecoming rally, the cheerleaders perform a special dance routine, which is set to J. J. Fad’s 1988 song “Supersonic.” And, on this particular day each year, they invite teachers to pair with them for their performance

Each cheerleader-teacher duo does their own mini routine, showcasing their moves for a gymnasium full of students and staff. In this video, from September 2022, there are 16 cheerleaders and 16 very brave teachers strutting their stuff!

Among the teachers participating, some may be in their first year and others close to retirement. Roughly two-thirds of the dancing educators are men. Some appear to be quick-stepping outside their comfort zones, while others own the floor!

Check them out! The first gent focuses on counting; he’s got to get the performance started right. He and his ponytailed partner high-five, feeling good about how things went. Number two’s moves are smooth and classy; he’s not trying too hard. The high steps are a challenge for the tall teacher in the third spot, and number four may have been a gymnast before becoming a pedagogue.

When the first gal stands up (number six in the line-up), she is super impressive. Even while wearing career clothes and shoes, she nails her number. Then, she offers a ton of love and affirmation to the teacher up next! Each one is fun to watch, and it’s evident that they are having a great time. The teacher in blue tie-dye seems to surprise herself with her nice execution of a jump. These good sports are a blast to watch!

Thankfully, Bishop Blanchet High School decided to share this video with the world. Before 2022, they had been keeping their homecoming tradition to themselves. J. J. Fad loved the video so much, that they shared it on their Facebook page, too.

Julie Gallaudet, Director of Marketing at Bishop Blanchet, said, “I thought it might get a fun reaction and bring lots of smiles because it’s school spirit and almost nostalgic to anyone watching. I was floored by the comments. We have tens of thousands of comments and they are so supportive and positive.”

“Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.” Colossians 3:16
