In order to process all of the information that we're bombarded with every day, we have to take shortcuts, make assumptions, and follow rules of thumb. But when we take these shortcuts, we risk deception to some extent. Knowing more about the pitfalls and the shortcuts we take can make us much less vulnerable, reducing the likelihood that we will be exploited.
