Aquinas's confidence is confirmed by experience and history. For nearly two millennia, orthodox Christians have found it true. Today thousands of thoughtful converts repeat the same threefold process of discovery that Justin Martyr wrote of in the second Century in his autobiographical "First Apology":
1. A man seeks the truth by the unaided effort of reason, and is disappointed.
2. It is offered him by faith, and he accepts.
3. And, having accepted, he finds that it satisfies his reason.
