“Your mother and I don't yet have the words to describe the hope you give us for the future. Your new life is full of promise, and we hope you will be happy and healthy so you can explore it fully. You've already given us a reason to reflect on the world we hope you live in. Like all parents, we want you to grow up in a world better than ours today.”And in an effort to make sure that happens, the couple has made a pretty amazing promise to their newborn daughter. Credit: Facebook Over the course of their lifetime, the couple will give up 99% of their shares in Facebook stock -- currently valued around $45 billion. The money will be donated to the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, where it will be used to help better the world for the next generation, starting with the areas of “personalized learning, curing disease, connecting people and building strong communities.” This goal of improving our world is reiterated throughout the letter, which Mark closes by saying,
“Max, we love you and feel a great responsibility to leave the world a better place for you and all children. We wish you a life filled with the same love, hope and joy you give us. We can't wait to see what you bring to this world.”Credit: Facebook This is not the first time the couple has used their wealth to do good. Just the other month they donated $20 million to EducationSuperHighway to bring better wireless Internet to schools. And earlier in the year they donated $75 million to San Francisco General Hospital. [rsnippet id="2"] It’s incredible to see this type of generosity, and we pray these donations will truly serve to create a better world for the next generation. We don’t all have billions of dollars to give away, but that doesn’t mean that God can’t use us to do great things. We all have something to give, whether it be time, money, love, encouragement, and so on. God put a special purpose on each of our lives and we pray each of us will answer His call!
