Here’s what to do as temperatures rise; experts share what to do if a baby is locked inside a car! Each year, children sadly have died from being accidently locked inside a car. With heat indexes reaching triple digits all over the country, professionals urge parents to be aware and be prepared.

In this video, a mother accidently locked her keys and her newborn inside. She called 9-1-1 and when help arrived, they realized the temperature in the car had already risen to 104 degrees. Her baby was in distress, without wasting any more time, the rescue team broke the front window in order to get inside the car. Miraculously, this sweet precious newborn baby was okay, thanks to her mother acting quickly to get help. Experts share tips in this video to help prepare parents, friends, and family in case they face a situation like this.

Always keep your keys and key fob with you. If possible, wear an extra set as a lanyard on your neck. If you do accidentally lock your keys in the car with a baby inside, call 9-1-1 immediately. 9-1-1 dispatchers are trained to help you in situations like this and will have the tools to guide you through the next steps.

If it’s going to be less than five minutes before help arrives, try putting a blanket over your vehicle to reduce the heat. If it’s going to be more than five minutes before help arrives, break a window furthest from the child to prevent injuries and get your child out as soon as possible.
