'Jealous Of The Angels' Jenn Bostic Shares Story Behind The Song

Jenn Bostic shares the story behind the song, ‘Jealous of the Angels,’ and I’m sobbing. Everything happens for a reason, and her song proves that.

During Jenn Bostic’s live online Christmas show, she shared the emotional story about her dad passing away when she was just 10 years old and how that eventually led to writing ‘Jealous of the Angels.’

Jenn Bostic has pursued a life of music since her dad died and has said music is the only way she feels his presence to this day. She studied music education in college and immediately moved to Nashville after graduating.

Despite struggling to find a record label early on, she has toured all over the U.S. and Europe. She’s certainly touched many hearts along the way with this powerful song about losing a loved one.

‘Jealous of the Angels’ was released in 2012 and continues to connect Jenn with people who have experienced similar pain. The song also won her five awards at the 2012 Independent Country Music Association Awards including ‘Country Music Song of the Year.’

Even though the single debuted almost 10 years ago, this is the first time I heard the song and its backstory. Her online concert was able to create this feeling that you were actually in the room with her. A feeling that she was talking directly to you and sharing this personal story.

Jenn shared how she had written her first song about her father as a kid, but it didn’t feel like she said everything she needed to say. Later on in her life, she and two other writers wrote ‘Jealous of the Angels’ in 45 minutes. She said, “It just felt like this weight I’d been carrying around had left my shoulders, and I knew it was something I had to write to heal.”

In a moment of panic, Jenn ended up playing the song at a cafe one night because she ‘had this sense’ that she needed to play it. Afterward, a woman told her that she lost her dad a couple of days earlier and needed to hear that song.

The craziest part? Jenn never planned on playing that song for people!

Since then, the song has been connecting people through one shared feeling: loss. Even though we lose people here on Earth, they are blessed to live with God in heaven.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
