Robert Irwin Recalls 'Incredibly Emotional' Moment Walking Bindi Down The Aisle

Brides dream of their daddy walking them down the aisle. But for some, that is a painful fact their fathers are not on this earth to be there for that incredible moment.

Sometimes a good friend, cousin, or even a grandparent steps into that role. But for Bindi Irwin, it was her brother. During an interview on the Kelly Clarkson show, Robert Irwin recalls an incredibly emotional moment walking Bindi down the aisle and how honored he felt to step in for their father, Steve Irwin.

Bindi and Robert’s father, Steve Irwin, was known worldwide for his love of animals, wildlife, and nature. In fact, most of us grew up watching his shows on TV and nicknamed him, “The Crocodile Hunter.” He was an Australian zookeeper, wildlife expert, and TV personality. But, he tragically died in 2006 after being pierced in the chest by a stingray.

After his death, his wife Terri and their two kids were left with the task of filling his shoes and running the zoo they co-owned. Despite his tragic death, the family continued his legacy to educate the world about God’s majestic creatures. Because they loved nature so much, Bindi chose what seemed to be an unlikely wedding venue!

She chose to say her vows at her father’s favorite place, the Australia Zoo. As her special day approached, it became stressful for the whole family. It wasn’t the usual wedding jitters, COVID had hit and the pandemic was in full force. This prevented most of their friends and family from being in attendance.

"It was really crazy. You always plan your wedding with lots of guests and I think it was just us and the animals. Very small, but it was really, really special and we're just glad to be married. And to be husband and wife while taking on this wild 2020 and new 2021,” Bindi commented to Kelly about planning her wedding for March of 2020 to Chandler Powell.

"It was definitely one of the most incredible moments of my entire life," Robert added "I felt so honored when Bindi first asked me to walk her down the aisle. It was just a little bit chaotic, but at the end of the day it all came together," Robert said.

When the moment finally came to walk Bindi down the aisle, Robert said he became emotional. “I think for me I was incredibly emotional, at the same time, not only being so proud for Bindi, it's such a happy day, but also kind of thinking how much I wish that dad could have been there and that was his job to walk her down the aisle…” he said.

Robert realized what an incredible and special moment it was to give his sister away to her husband. Bindi felt blessed after what her brother did for her. What an extraordinary picture of love, strength, and resilience in the face of tragedy. They certainly have a bond that will get them through thick and thin!

“The young women will dance for joy, and the men—old and young—will join in the celebration. I will turn their mourning into joy. I will comfort them and exchange their sorrow for rejoicing.” Jeremiah 31:13
