A Cappella Quartet Sings 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow'

You’ve probably heard the song ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ hundreds of times. But I can promise you’ve never heard it like this amazing a cappella cover. What a great message we can take from these lyrics, especially in today’s climate.

These up-and-coming artists take songs you know and love and give them a unique a cappella twist. The band called, Backtrack Vocals, a quartet sang, ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow,’ and it is going viral. It’s no wonder this classic is quickly becoming a hit with the band’s rebirth of the song.

The music video opens with one band member standing in a field as he hits the high notes with precision and perfection before the camera pans to the next singer. Each time the camera shot widens, a band member blends their voice with the rest of the a cappella crew. The blend of their voices is absolutely captivating!

The band, originally from New York City is now a five-person professional singing group that transforms today’s greatest hits from legendary artists like Katy Perry and Lauren Daigle to classics like this performance of Somewhere Over the Rainbow. This classic was written in 1939 for the film, The Wizard of Oz and was originally performed by Judy Garland as the film’s protagonist, Dorothy Gale.

The newest members of the band are Mallary Moser, Melissa Jordano, Mike Hinkle, Jojo Otseidu, and Johnny Buffalo. Their exciting arrangements transform familiar tunes and showcase the top-notch vocal (and beatboxing) abilities of all of the members.

Backtrack Vocals got its start on YouTube, where the group now has over 10 million views and 110,000 subscribers! The group also took their skills to the stage of New York’s Got Talent Season six where they won.

What’s even more amazing about this group of young artists is their willingness to go into schools to help other children embrace their passion for music, singing, and beatboxing.

Because they know music is vital to our souls, they even began offering virtual classes and coaching online. What a gift! No matter the song, the results of their talent and efforts are incredible and uplifting. It’s a reminder of God’s promises too.

"Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.'" Genesis 9:16
